    Default Legal advice

    Morning all,
This is my first time on the forum and would like to ask a question about land ownership. I have read a few comments and am very aware of the potential dangers. What I would like to do is find a lawyer who can look over our paperwork for us independently from the notary.
Does anyone know of a good lawyer in Bali? We are purchasing land with a local nominee (a friend we have known for many years) in the Ungasan area.

    Thanks

    Cool

Parajen not sure what you want to hear. A lawyer will tell you that it is illegal to loan a Indonesia person money so you can purchase land. If you are unsure of the notary that you are using you look up Eddy he has been mentioned before, he is a good notary. The best advise is to take as much time as you need, don't get pushed into anything. Ask the questions, who owns the title of the land, can you build on it(not green land) get a building permit before you buy. I hope your dream comes true

Any chance your nominee found the land for you?
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat drinking beer all day.

Thankyou Spicyayam and Fred 2. We are not lending an Indonesian money, rather purchasing the land for us. Our nominee is a good friend of many years, so we do trust him. We asked him about purchasing land and he has been very up front with us this far. I am a sceptical person by nature, so am trying to do as much research as possible and will take your advice about not being in a hurry.

We looked at many blocks of land and were'nt pressured into making our choice. We have a copy of the land title (in Indonesian), but will still need to find out about the permits before handing over any money. We understand about the notary, but wanted to double check the finer details. We are heading back to Bali in April.

    Thanks again.

I can see why you are sceptical, but how is your friend buying the land for you?
You have found the only Indonesia person that is willing to buy land for you out of his own pocket or you are going to use the nominee system?????????

I don't think we should try and muddy the view any more as buying land in Bali is pretty murky at the best of times and fraught with pitfals so Parajen, firstly welcome to the forum, you've made the best first move you could have by coming here.

I did it and listened to what was said and asked question again and again until I got the answers I wanted. First, you must go back and read everything that is written here about the subject - or not, it's your money, but most of what you are looking for has been asked - repeatedly.

If you are lucky this is what you get at the end:sample5.jpg

As to your question I did exactly the same - got the documents all drawn up by my tame Notary and then had them checked by a lawyer - I can recommend the ones next to Tropical Pools in Sanur on the bypass - sorry don't know their names (chancellory) but they were excellent and actually did it while I waited.

Keep your nerve and enjoy - it can be quite fun
