RE: Cost of building

It seems both Nakal and Allan doubt me.. I will have to have you guys over for cold bingtang and nasi goreng upon my arrival in 3 weeks. In regards to pics I am semi computer illiterate yet I have many pix. will get my girlfreind to help me post tonight or tomorrow. I am not too familiar with sq metres yet I know we have around 1800 sq ft of living space including our upstairs.. I remember several yrs ago I think it was Roy claimed I would get a pondok in the sawa for 30k or so.. We met many people in the North( We live in the desa of Panjii between Singaraja and Kalibukbuk) who were being take to the cleaners by shady contractors, inlaws, the list goes on.. Our contractor is fluent in English, well educated, a wealthy business woman and her husband is a close freind of several yrs of my father... Maybe this was factor in our price of construction.. Our contractor was also using our villa as a template for her furture developments. We actually would have spent quiet a bit less yet we ha,d to rebuild our rd, and I believe way over payed to have our power hooked up.. Hey did I mentioned we fully furnished the home with beautifully tasteful, teak furniture for around 1500 dollars.. I have seen many peoples homes in the north and the south, have also rented two Bali homes in the last yr. Not trying to brag yet our little piece or paradise makes the craftsmanship and quality of other homes look embarrisingly poor... cheers.

Doubt? Not at all. I just want to have a squiz and get some ideas.

Just a suggestion you might want to use a service like flickr for your photos. Have you seen VincentOG's? http://www.flickr.com/photos/80208012@N00/sets/

The cost of building is very subjective and I can only base my comments on our building experience. We built a two story house of cement and steel with brick fill then rendered. 20 are' of land , landscaping by us and a 7m x 4m pool all for about Aust. $120 000 with all furniture etc. We had onsite control over all materials and quality via 2 trusted balinese employed as project manager and book keeper. We did have a cost blow out of about $ 20 000 due to ceremonies, extras , a temple etc....We wish you luck and patience

50 k canadian without the land that is correct. We we lucky in that our dollar was close to on par with american at the time, right now i believe it is 87 cents or so... We bought our first piece at 4 million per are three yrs ago aprox. My dad added another piece last yr at 6 million, i bought more next to his at 6.5 per are I believe, and I am returning to Bali in three weeks to purchase mor adjacent land at 9 million per.. there are near by properties that people are asking i think 12 per are or more so obviously prices are rising in the North. I personally am very happy with our land which now equals close to 4 acres boardering a river. Nice panoramic ocean view. 85 percent or so is working rice farm.. we are finishing up abarn to raise some cows, pigs, maybe ducks, also planted a nice vegi garden and 50 fruit trees. both my father and myself were raised on farms( myself hobby farm, my father large ranch) and we are determined to try and withhold the natural integrity and rural beauty of the property.. Mind you I would love a small pool, yet we take dips in the river which is so nice on a hot day... cheers....

Sorry mosaic I got you confused with harimau who said he was building a house 6x7 meters.

160 are is a large piece of land and the location sounds idyllic.

BTW in previous post you did say (at least I'm pretty sure this time it was you):

just finished paper work on lovina property it appears we payed about 1/3 of other similar pproperties. Purchased from a balinese family of British expat who is friend of father.. What do day labourers cost to work projects on your land, can you hire in exchange for rice crop. Thank you.

So maybe land hasn't really increased as much as you think. Well maybe not triple in three years.

I think I must have been confused and comparing land in the hills (rural) to parcels closer to Lovina where anything near the water is obviously quite sought after by some.... After spending four months in Bali I became more aware of reality as oppose to my perceived reality.. ex. I also asuumed that all the labour working on our house would be 16 yrs or over. I noticed that quite a few of the boys and gilrls hauling rock on their heads appeared quite young...... I amquite sure that prices in the north are rising quite rapidly as my dad has thee bule friends who have moved near our property where last yr there were none. cheers..

Sorry had some difficulty trying to attach photos with the last post. You can go to our web site http://www.balihome.com.au for a quick view, but the photos are out of date and will need updating next visit in June July. How do you insert an image to this site?

Does that include the machine/pump (I'm no construction person, so pardon the lack of knowledge :))? Any suggestions for a good firm in or around Singaraja?
