It is my experience, that foreigners should be more afraid of other foreigners than the locals....

bert, as you probably know, I respect you and your viewpoint (certainly more so than i do the other main contributor to this thread) - and yes, i'm likely being overly negative purely in defiance of roy's nonsense. for that i apologize. but still having said that bali is full of people wanting to take your buck - but that's the same anywhere in the world. the question is, how credible is the legal system that protects the rights of individuals? i think in the case of indonesia overall, one can safely sum up, that it's not very credible..

Notaries have a law degree They are all S.H.

I don't know about the USD 800 law degree, I just know of (expensive) accelerated courses, which are disputed, will ask Dewi when I get back...

Ah, degrees you can buy anywhere. In the US, in the Netherlands, they get caught, and some time later they start again...

Dentists, and even surgeons have been caught with fake papers... (In the West)

Our lawyer, Pak Indrah, is an ex-Jesuit priest with two doctorate degrees, and trust me, he didn't find those degrees in a box of cereal!

you're not doing him any favours by disclosing this.. i couldn't care less if he was the pope - in fact, it'd be a point justifying instant dismissal of service, for me.. PHD's aren't terribly expensive either

He's very open about that fact, and there is no shame in it. As I said, Jesuits don’t get their doctorate degrees from the inside of a cereal box.
