    Default Bank/Money transfers to Bali

Just some information to those poor souls looking to push some serious money towards Indonesia for house/land buying or similar large purchases.

I flew back to the UK at the beginning of May because the banks were giving my some serious grief about transferring MY MONEY where I WANTED IT, hard to believe aint it?

Well I wanted to transfer to 2 separate accounts at 2 different banks between the UK and Bali. I initiated the transfer on the 22nd with the assurance that it would "only" take 8 working days. I found out that the money has landed today (the 3rd) at one of the banks and that the other is still waiting. I was told that the bank that is still waiting does not have any "relationship" with my bank here in the UK and that is why it takes longer....

They must really think that we are stupid.

When I asked where my money was between the 22nd (when it left my account) and today the 3rd when it officially arrived at my new account all I got was a knowing laugh. And them taking 2 weeks to do what Paypal or any other business today can do in the blink of an eye.

For us mortals that's 2 weeks of interest on a substantial amount of MY dosh that some useless fecking bank is getting.

Ok if they didn't charge for the transfer I wouldn't mind, but they do and not too little either.

The banking crisis was a real problem for me cause I always thought the Banks deserved exactly what they got - the problem was it was like watching your mother-in-law go off a cliff in your new Mercedes - a painful pleasure.

Good topic Markit :) Do you have a limit you can transfer from UK and are there any tax implications? Also are the fees charged in proportion to the amoount transfered or a set fee.
Am off to the mine today to pay for my last 3 weeks in Jakarta and Bali so will check your reply in a week. Cheers

I transfer money on a regualr basis and it takes 3-5 days. Normally it is held in Jakarta for a couple of days because it leaves my UK account immediately. They all make overnight money lending rates :(

My Fee is 12 uK POUNDS FOR ANY SIZE TRANSACTION. NO TAX IMPLICATIONS AND NO LIMITS

ive had probs with money getting "lost" after its left my Australian bank. I get them to do a trace (25$), and it mysteriously turns up within hours of my home bank initiating the trace.

Thier (indo banks')excuse is currency changing problems/delays.....ive now opened a triple currency account with an Indonesian bank so my transfers are all same currency, and then i do an in house bank conversion when the time suits me.

one wonders what would happen if you never chased the money up and did a trace.

I use the Commonwealth Bank Indonesia as the arrival point for funds. Yesterday I transferred money from my Australian account in the morning, and it showed up in the Indonesian bank that same day. They are reliable, the funds never mysteriously get delayed - but of course nothing happens on Indonesian bank holidays.

The funds transfer is in Aussie dollars, but the Indonesian bank then converts to Rupiah on arrival to put in my account - they seem to give a good rate.

Domestic transfers from this Commonwealth account to accounts in other Indo banks are also quick - no mysterious delays.

Same here ronb..although I use different banks.
I use ABN-AMRO Netherlands or ING, for transferring euro's to ABN-AMRO in Denpasar or Bank Mandiri.
For USD I use either Bank of America or HSBC Suisse. but no strange delays or missing money.
don't read between the lines..i think the words are clear enough...:)

I once transferred money from Barclays in UK to BNI and then back again... proof of funds for Made when he was going for his UK visa. When transferring back to the UK it went "missing" for about a month. Indonesia said it had been sent, Uk said it had never been received. It was extremely stressful as it was not even my money but borrowed from a freind just to show Made had £5k in his account!

Never tried it in reverse as I do not earn money in Indonesia but if you do and want to transfer money home it must be quite worrying.

I transfer money to the UK from Saudi and no problems at all.

    What a saga!

Now (8/06/09) been waiting for the transfer to go through since the 22nd of last month and called Barclays to find out where the feck my money is and they shamefacedly explained to me that it has been sitting on their foreign accout for a week since there was some problem that they have in the mean time forgotten. They promise that they have tried to reach me once, a week ago, but got no answer, so of course gave up after one attempt - they are BARCLAYS after all, and just let my money sit there until I call up and start screaming like a small girl. Now they are promising to have my money at its target within 8 working days, which is what they said on the 22nd of last month. I have demanded that they pay me the lost interest and get the bank in Indonesia to call my sellers and explain how stupid BARCLAYS (for anybody that might have missed it the banks name again is BARCLAYS) have been and that its not my fault.

I won't hold my breath  Oh, and the currency has fallen 500 Rupes/£ in the mean time

I am reading here, i think, that sending money out of Indonesia could be a problem. Tax would also raise its ugly head i presume on the money coming into oz. Maybe better doing a few trips and bringing back cash maybe????
