Anyone fancy having their brains picked?
Hi all, (hope this is the right place to post)
I'm a newbie to this, and about to dip my toe in the water (ok...plunge in, more like!)
I'll be in Bali next week (9th-13th) doing some serious land hunting (2nd round) with a view to building & would love the opportunity to invest in buying a beer (or lots of) for some of the more experienced owner-builders & the opportunity to pick your brains, learn from your experience & try to avoid the main pitfalls.
The 'horror stories', scams & ripoffs I read here are a bit daunting, but nonetheless, nothing ventured... etc
I'll be based in Seminyak, but exploring far & wide, mainly Tabanan, and Ubud (there probably Wed 11th)... not sure Lovina is on the radar, though
Maybe a BaliPod gathering?

I have no experience of the building trade here in Bali but do have a friend who owns this. Let me know if you're interested in looking and I'm sure he can set up a meeting.

And nothing beats learning face to face over a beer... besides I'd need to know what questions to askSome of the war stories I read here would never have occurred to me (eg: septic tanks!!!).
Though.... I would never put my money down without solid paperwork with certified translations... strangely, I've read a few threads here from those that have... hypnotic Bali, I presume
An Ubud gathering would be easy to put together. Let us know when it suits you. Also, I'm halfway between Ubud and Sanur so that's also easy. And there may be an Ubudian or two who would wander down that way.

Anywhere suits me but I'm trying to think of places easy to find and easy for a group of us to be comfortable.
Warung Mendez in Penistenan is easy to find (above Antonio Blanco Museum). Jazz Cafe is a good meeting place. We're going to try the Chillout Lounge this weekend but so far I can't personally recommend it so if you've been there please wander into this conversation and make some noise. We're spoiled for choice in Bali.

Now, we just need to find somewhere to sleep for that night - which involves the daunting task of trawling through the online booking sites sticking a metaphorical pin in the computer & hoping for the best!
The upside is that we will be able to go North on Wednesday.
