Hi everyone.
My husband and I have a 21-month-old son and I have just been offered a job in Ubud :D . I should be taking up the position early next year if all goes to plan, and moving from Jakarta where we are currently based.
We are looking for young families to befriend. My husband is the main carer of our son, so if there are any other stay-at-home dads you know of please let us know. We both speak OK Indonesian, and are not just looking for expat families.
Also, are there any facilities like kindergartens or play groups/ drop-in centres in the area? Should we consider living in a different area closer to other facilities (but an easy distance from Ubud), or just stay in the areas surrounding Ubud.
Thanks,
jakartajockette

JJ / BL ..what nices ages your kids are at ...mine are 11/13 girls ...not so fun rite now .
jamie,
you must have your hands full at the moment - and i'm guessing as they progress further into their teens, it will only become more fun :P
i've got a little while yet before i need to start worrying about my daughter having boyfriends (hopefully) - she's only 11months and my sone is 3yrs old..

Jamie, when the doctor told me I was having a boy, I was relieved. The reason - I remembered my relationship with my parents, especially my mother, from the age of about 11 and up. Mind you, who knows what the future will bring.
Which to you think is harder work - two adolescent daughters or 2 toddlers?
May the force be with you. (Couldn't think of anything more fitting!)

Hi.. Our boy is 22 months old and we will move to Bali end of next year, but we will stay at Jimbaran, My husband will be partly retire and will stay at home more often, thats the plan..
We do love Ubud and we often spend a day or two there when we visit Bali..It's a nice place for a family living...you will like it..
No question that at the end of the day tending to two toddles is tirering to the body . But you have some down time , nap time , bed time ect , and they dont talk back . Teen girls , it never seems to end . I remember when my girls where young people would say to my wife and I , what a nice age , as I had done with Balilife . I would think these people where crazy and forgot what its like to have toddlers . I now know its a great time for a young family , kids are great at that age . To defend my kids , once in a while they do something and makes it all worth while . :D
Hi all!
Sorry, not been very active lately, you know how it is....... :(
I have a 5 yr old & a 18 yr old, both boys! And I really think that it's much much better when they're at the before school age, 3-4 yrs! As soon as they start school, they get cheeky and start copying bad behaviour! Teens also cost more money!
Having said that, there are advantages of having a teen in the house. My son helps out with babysitting & house chores. Although 18, I can still ground him if he misbehaves! :)
Jamie we have 3 kids 25 , 22 and 20. You are in right in the middle of it brother with your teenagers, but it does get better.
10 years ago we were at your stage and it was very time consuming (footy ballet , basket ball , cricket endless rides in Mum’s taxi) and expensive. But with all 3 now in the family business it now seems that they make the money and we have more time to ourselves. So keep your chin up.
CT… it’s a long road bro but you will get there.

Since sex is just a happy memory to many of us (those with little kids, I mean - nature's contraceptive) let me tell you what the next best feeling is:
Dropping your 19 year old daughter off at her university digs in Oxford.
"Bye, see you at Christmas" are some of the finest words in the English language.
If it gets any better I'll need bypass surgery first. :D
