Some of you may have already heard about John and Cynthia Hardy’s new visionary school being build in Sabang (20 minutes out of Ubud). They will be opening in September of this year. Also, they are hosting an open house with a full tour of the facilities each month, so if you are on Bali and wish to have a look, send the director, Brad Choyt, an e-mail to receive your invitation to one of these upcoming open houses.

Just for clarification, they sold their jewelry business, "lock, stock and barrel" as we old New England Yankees would say. No details from me about that, but I assure you, that is fact.
John and Cynthia are 100% devoted to this visionary project, perhaps as a way they can give back to Bali some part of what Bali has given to them.
Motives notwithstanding, there is no question that this school will very soon overtake the International School in Sanur as the best educational facility in Bali. In addition, it will be part of the world wide Outward Bound project.
Hi Roy.
I just received a very nice email to my theinternationalteacher site from the school's PR person inviting me to visit. It looks quite interesting, and I intend to take a look as soon as possible, although I'll reserve comments about the future of the school until I actually see it working, but I would like to do a review of the school based on a visit for my blog.
Thats great news for those who do not want to live in the heat&hustle of the south. Ubud deserves a great school nearby, it will attract more familys in the area, I'm sure. Bravo and my hat goes off to John for making this move, great to see the money he made is being productive...Our kids went to the same school his did when we were there... Drinks on me next time I see him..... Roy, great to see you posting again. Frog

I wonder how many balines kids will be at the school, and the economic situation of this kids Roy , Froggy could you please tell me how do you think this is going to benefic Ubud or Bali? ok just probably to bring more rich foreigners to Ubud..............
Give back to Bali some part of what Bali has given to them???????????? do you really think this is going to benefic balinese comunity???????? to make a school for rich foreigners or for rich expats kids is what you think give bak to Bali what bali given to them?
Yesterday somebody told me about the fees for one school for one moth ,it was something around 12.000.000 Rp per a month but I am not sure if it was Dyatmika or Kul Kuk school..........sorry if this information is not right, I just got it yesterday from some friends and I didn´t have time to check it yet.
Roy, I know you have been there could you tell us how much are the fees in that school? When I heard about the project a few years ago I was quite naive because I though I could maybe afford to put my child there and I though it could have been something more accesible to many people but not way I was totally wrong!!!!!! anyway I am still thinking to go to see the place, the location I think is really good!!! and the philosophy of the school seems really great!!!!!!!!!!!!! a very "exclusive" place

Well I'm mixed in my response, an "elite' high cost school to a local indonesian yes,but It might posssibly bring more "bule" t family to the area, is this abad thing, I guess it depends on your perspective. Here where I live now the sour attitude of racial and cultrual segregation is long past ( you really dont have a choice) live with it , the world is turning into a melting pot rather anyone likes it or not. I'm not sure but those rates do tend to be on the wild side, unless that includes full boarding? Frog
Dr. Bruce, always great to hear from you. Your observations on the school will be of keen interest so when you put that up on your blog, please be sure to give a heads up.
Begonia, you ask,
On at least three fronts, yes I do. On one hand, the school will be providing a great deal of employment for the villagers of Sabang. The school is sprawling...something over 8 hectare according to John. So, even on very basic levels of ground and building maintenance, there will be lots of employment for the villagers. In fact, given that all the buildings are 100% made of bamboo and alang alang, there will be a lot more maintenance necessary than with brick and mortar structures.“Give back to Bali some part of what Bali has given to them???????????? do you really think this is going to benefic balinese comunity????????”
On another front, the school will be generating some very significant tax revenue for the regency. On a final front, the school will be awarding scholarships to some Balinese children. The extent of those scholarships, and the basis on which they will be awarded I don’t know, but one could find out by contacting the school directly.
As for the costs, all I know about that is that for non boarding students, the annual tuition is less than at the international school in Sanur.
