Have a question hope someone may be able to shed some light on the subject.
I have a friend going through a divorce in Bali. From what I understand the divorce has been granted but they still have to obtain the papers from the court (and pay). Have told me the papers then have to go to another office where marriage and divorce papers are registered or similar.
I have no understanding of what is involved and am unfamiliar with the terminology used for the office involved.
Does anyone have a good understanding of what the process is once the court has granted the divorce? Any information would be appreciated. My friend is quite stressed about this. I thought once the divorce was granted the worst part would be over. Maybe it is more to do with the animosity  between the two parties involved which is understandable.
Sorry monyet, can't help you..
But as I ready your post and it reminded me of a joke an iranian uncle of mine (who now lives in NY) once told me - there's nothing politically correct about this joke. I've removed the group of peoples referred to in the actual telling of the joke - it's a race of people that iranians foolishly feel that they're somehow better than, so I'm guessing most will know. Needless to say it refers to a group of people that many iranians (not including myself) feel are savages and have little respect for their wives.. It really is a sick joke, but here goes :-) :
A young «SO snd SO» man was telling his uncle, that he wanted to divorce his wife.. His uncle, aware that the marriage had it's problems, agreed that such would be best. So he sent his nephew to his lawyer to complete all the paperwork. When he was done, the lawyer handed him a 2 by 4 (plank of wood). The young man asked, "what is this for?". The lawyer responded, it's to finalize the divorce. "I don't understand? said the young man". The elderly lawyer explained, "You go home and firstly demand sex from your wife, when it is over you accuse her of having been with another man and you use this 2 by 4 to beat her to death..".
"Why do I have to have sex with her first?" asked the young man..
The old man paused for a moment and asked... "Why not?".

PS - hope all works out for your friend..
Yes it is a sick joke, especially as it is estimated that over 5000 women are killed every year in these so called "honour killings"

3/ Why does everything in Bali (Indonesia) take so long and at every turn there is an unexpected and additional if, but or maybe.
Still hope someone out there has some knowledge regarding the process and will post. I find it hard to discuss with my friend as I do not have a basic understanding of what is involved with the justice system and 'handout's'.
Yes mimpi, 'honour killings' are disgraceful, but like I said, it was told by my uncle in contempt of the culture of a particular race he sees as savages.. Like I pointed out - I think that view is unwarranted because I believe the same types of incidents happen in Iran (perhaps without the lawyer..)..
Anyhow,
I'm sure there's a long list of answers to that question, but I'd suspect right up the top you'd find:3/ Why does everything in Bali (Indonesia) take so long and at every turn there is an unexpected and additional if, but or maybe.

So that makes it ok to retell it on a Bali -forum? To be honest I cant see the point in posting what you yourself call a sick joke in response to a serious question about divorce.but like I said, it was told by my uncle in contempt of the culture of a particular race he sees as savages

Ok, I'm sorry. Bad joke, wrong place, unrelated to the question.
My apologies.

It's not even a joke! It's not funny!
Well whether or not something is funny is entirely subjective. It was told to me as a joke and I refer to it as such. Theoretically one could take a poll to ascertain whether a broader audience felt it was funny or not. I believe given the politically incorrect nature of the 'joke' many would refrain from publicly acknowledging finding it funny - even if they did find it funny, so I'm by no means inviting such a poll as I know what the outcome would be.
In any case, having acknowledged it's innappropriateness on this forum already I shall say no more - I expect nothing less than to get a decent scalding from a bunch of members.
I'll tell my uncle the 'joke' should be destroyed.

The joke is an indication of a clueless phenomenon, cathartic only for the male population based on ennui. This leads to an epigenetic slant on life.
