Where to have a baby in Bali

Postby sammib on Tue Mar 18, 2008 8:27 am

Hi everyone,

I will be having a baby in July and am undecided about whether to have it in Bali or head to Bangkok, where I had my first.

All of the experiences I have heard about in Bali have resulted in c-sections and I really want to find a doctor who strongly backs natural birth. Does anyone have any specific suggestions of hospitals/doctors? We are staying in Sanur. I am also looking to contact the midwife Kim, if anyone has?

Many thanks.

I can't help you with this one. Am trying to remember where my wife had our daughter, but the name keeps slipping away. Kasi Ibu? It's been 6 years ago. It's in Denpasar and the rooms were very nice. She didn't need a C section and the total cost were around 8 million. A good read of someone who had a baby more recent is this blog. It's good for more general information too http://www.baliblog.com/guide/travel-ti ... s-in-bali/

My wife had three of our four children at a mid-wife's house just down the street from us in Singaraja. She never had any problems even though her doctor tried to persuade her to have the child in the hospital and have a C-section. She had other ideas about the whole thing.

Kasih Ibu is generally good, but the price has gone up in the last few years, and the last time that I was there, they messed up an operation on my ankle and I had to do it over again a few weeks later. It was a pain - literally.

As with most stuff around Bali, find someone who has had a good experience recently and check that out. Best of luck.

For what this is worth, “we” (meaning Eri of course) had all three of our boys at Kasih Ibu hospital in Denpasar as well.

We also wanted a natural birth for Bima, our first, but the reality was, he was one big boy in her belly, and my wife was still less than 48 kilograms in weight. It just wasn’t going to happen without a whole lot of pain and unnecessary stress both on Eri and Bima.

VBAC, or vaginal births after a cesarean present a whole new host of issues, none of which either Eri or myself wanted to go through. So, the result was that all our three boys were delivered by C-section, but none were scheduled. In all three cases, her water broke, and she went into labor. It was neither our decision, nor the doctor’s decision to decide any of the birth dates for our boys.

We were very happy with our OB/GYN and the entire staff at Kasih Ibu. When you look at the result, who can argue with Eri’s decision?

We have two children (6 and our youngest will be 3 on June 2nd). Our first was born at Kassi Ibu and we chose a purpose built hospital in Northern Denpasar called Puri Bunda for our second. PB would definitely be my choce again and as far as natural or C-sec goes this is a choice to be made by you along with your own doctors reccommendations.

Both of ours were C-secs for the same reason mentioned before i.e. big babies in a small lady :-)

Facilities at PB are superb as are the staff and care levels. We had a room akin to a hotel room and I stayed there for the three days my wife was in.

Hope this helps

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your helpful comments. I've decided to "work" (well, it is labour right?) with Kim, who chooses Prima Medika to work with.

Cheers

Puri Bunda looks nice. Anyone have kids at RS Sanglah International Wing? We're running out of time to decide and have only visited Sanglah and Prima Medika's new baby hospital.

It seems that most went to Kasih Ibu. Our doctor doesn't work there but works at the Kasih Ibu in Jimbaran and Prima Medika. Still no one with any experience at Sanglah? Baby is due in 10 weeks. We need to decide soon or we'll have it at home.
