Default In Praise of Slow Food and Even Slower Thinking (mine!)

Gotta share a typical Balinese experience with you that made me laugh (at myself mostly). Was fixing myself a lunch of fried egg, tomatoes, bacon and potatoes using a new pan from one of those combined sized buys that the department stores have - you know, all different sizes but all fitting together.

Well, finished making my meal and was about to tuck in and there was my man Friday (Alit, guy for everything - he always tries to do everything for me before I even can ask). So thinking ahead I said to him to leave the frying pan to cool down and I would just put it in the fridge (yeah, I know but you had to have been there) as the new fat was about 1/2 inch in the bottom and I didn't want to mess with it as I wanted to eat first and then clean up and I wanted to save the fat to re-use.

Well, came back about an hour later to clean up and, of course, everything was gone and the kitchen was spic and span again care of Alit (his wife is the normal cleaning lady/pembantu).

Imagine my delight when opening the fridge to get a drink to find all 6 frying pans carefully stowed away each on its own shelf.

Any advice on how to get around this? I'm either going to have to hurt his feelings by telling him that wasn't what I had in mind or accept that in future all frying pans will be placed in the refrigerator.

Maybe all further food from a take-away?

Markit, I think it's possible to tell him it was a misunderstanding if you do it with a smile. Maybe say it was only a joke (bercanda saja). You can apologise to him and say you were being silly (saya bodoh).

Many thanks thats what I'll do. He shouldn't have any problem believing that I was being silly. Sometimes I think that what they think our purpose on the planet really is - to be silly and cause them to wonder.

My pleasure, by the way Gil did you get my telephone number change sms?

My old number ran out, as usual, so got to start from new - anybody know a way to hang onto a number without complicated calling or anything from outside the country?

It depends for how long you are away. You can fill up your pulsa at your banks ATM,and if you do so for about 300.000rp it will be valid for about six months. It also depends wich provider you use,Xl has longer validity than simpati and family.

Think you wiould have found it yourself, but here's the link to XL Axiata > Prepaid > Reload. It will cost you around 100 k every 3 months to keep your number active at Pro XL. I'm sometimes happy to not keep it active

To keep a number you simply need a post-paid rather than pre-paid which is easy if you have a KITAS. Then if for whatever reason, such as mobile phone lost, you get Telkomsel or whoever to give you a new SIM with the same old number. Works like a charm.
