For those that haven't seen it. I found this to be a really well done trailer and from all those that have also seen it the general opinion was "well done, where's the next plane to Bali". A complete success then.
So I guess we gotta say "hat off" to the company that made it (Balinese!) and looking forward to the full length feature. I, amongst others here, always bitch when something is fecked up about the country so dues where dues are due, if you get me?
I watched this and it reminded me of the disasterous Eat, Pray, Love movie in miniature.
The visual deal being presented here by the Bali Hotels Association (?) is so far off the mark of what's actually real these days in many areas of Bali it's not funny. Sure - it's well done for what it is. Just a pity it's a bit in la-la land.
Nice concept: show a beautiful Bali, with no signs of haggling hawkers, garbage, traffic jams, poverty, and all the rest. I call it visual hyperbole.
Rather than BHA putting together pure bullshit, I would rather they spent their money addressing the multitude of issues that are screwing this island up, with no end in sight.

You miserable old sod! It's a lovely little film.
If it's naked reality you insist on then you can't watch anything.
I mean the whole point of the film is to attract people to the island - they probably have trash and crime at home. Or we would be going to visit them.
"is so far off the mark of what's actually real these days in many areas of Bali it's not funny"
A) it is off the mark in the part of Bali you live in - not mine!
B) I could show you pictures of equal beauty from my back yard. Not bragging but that is still "reality" for many in Bali.
These kind of video impressed me 13 years ago but not any more, now make me laugh and tired to see these beautiful images of Bali always and all the time..........and like Johnny I wonder when people will think about PROBLEMS..............and the REAL BALI or shows the other face of Bali............
The bad things still the same or worst and nobody talks, shows or try to sort out the problems.........

Johnny baby, this short film is an ADVERTISING, a PROMOTION of Bali to attract tourists, i.e. money. It's a fantasy, and the music is not even Balinese...![]()
Keep on smiling.

You mean with visual lies and false advertising?
...it is off the mark in the part of Bali you live in - not mine!
The part of Bali I live in is pleasant enough - and so is my "backyard". However, our respective backyards are not necessarily a reflection of many around us (note that I said "many", not all). I can walk less than 50 metres into local backyards and see very different worlds.

Thankyou for that. I didn't realise it was an advertising promotion. What happens when the tourists attracted by this expect to see what is portrayed in the film? Many of them will probably be "lucky" by staying in beautiful surroundings, but many will be pissed off.
BTW - the music features Ayu Laksmi (a Balinese), and by the sound of it, performing with Balawan's Bali Ethnic Fusion group. Both Balawan and Ayu are superb modern Balinese musicians (Ayu sings).
The many "lucky" ones will return home, raving about it (unless they had the bad experience to also ventured out of their temporary retreat), and many others will be pissed-off, unless, like myself, they discover and like a more down-to-earth Bali.
As for the music, which fits appropriately the video, you know very well what I mean by "not even Balinese," Ayu Laksmi and the Balawan Group notwithstanding (whoever they are).![]()

Like yourself, I prefer down-to-Earth Bali also.
No, I'm not sure what you mean. Perhaps you could elaborate upon that.As for the music, which fits appropriately the video, you know very well what I mean by "not even Balinese," Ayu Laksmi and the Balawan Group notwithstanding (whoever they are).
If you mean that the music is not some run-of-the-mill Balinese gamelan, you're 100% correct. Maybe you should familiarise yourself with the works of Laksmi and Balawan before saying something like "whoever they are". You could also reflect upon why their music was chosen in the first place.
Cheers!
Another nice video of Bali.
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat drinking beer all day.
Good images, but the short clips and the way it jumps from one scene to another then sometimes back creates a somewhat frenetic feel. Longer clips and fewer jumps may be a better way to create the impression of tranquillity. But that's just a minor criticism.
