I went out to a friends land today in Bangli Regency, up in the hills in a hidden little hamlet. Seemed like time had stood still with people around doing their daily chores etc. Our friends, in fact business partner's wife's family were having their bi-annual house blessing so we went up chill out and enjoy the countryside for the day. One special moment was when this old boy made an appearance, my business buddy told me this is the grandfather of his wife's father and is currently thought to be around 120 years old. I hope I'm still all together as this guy was if I ever get to that age.
A special moment when he was meeting one of his family line, I was just thinking when I took this photo that they are separated by 120 years and 8 months! Crazy...

Wow! I somehow doubt when balinese tell me "this woman is 115 years old" and that they can prove it. In rural areas they get in a very young age children sometimes with 16, 17 years. that means with 36 you could be already grandfather. I don't know the age of your buddy but balinese even have a different calendar and sometimes I've the feeling they are getting confused with the numbersgreat picture though!
there is an old muslim fella up near Kerta Gosa who is said to be about 128 years old. his wife is a spring chicken in her 70's.
i have heard that as you age your body shrinks but your ears grow. well, this mans ears are nearly bigger than his head, so if that IS true, i can believe he is as old as they say he is.
Great pictures and stories but I'm sorry I just don't really believe these numbers. Most Balinese above the age of 70 don't really know their actual age in terms of our calendar as it wasn't really used when they were born. Plus Balinese having basically three birthdays a year (two on the Balinese calendar and one on our calendar) makes things even more confusing. I don't doubt that these people are very old, but well into their 100s I'm a bit skeptical.
and taken into account the expected lifespan of people living in a desa, I agree with calitobali..Old-yes, a 100-no.
don't read between the lines..i think the words are clear enough...:)
I dunno BKTpeople are different, only if you look older....that means nothing, please consider many asian rural citizen living a life full of healthy slow work on the fields (till their old ! no pension with 60 - 65) and without eating too much fat & drinking too much alcohol so their are able to stay fit sometimes.
On the downside: too much sun & cigarettes....
So it's difficult to say, every person is different. As I said before I just don't believe this tales about "he is 125 years old" but 100 years? Yes easily!
Not much more to say really.
