There is fibre optic cable already laid here in Canggu, Global Extreme can offer the service fairly soon, we are talking weeks from now.....yeah
Cool. I hope they did a better job than PDAM when putting down pipes, covering them with a thin layer of dust at best. Or they will need a handful of really good fiber optic welders :)
Any clue what price/plans will be available?
i am having a little problem finding internet, i need to download around 20-30 gb a month with speeds around 1 mb/512k upload. any ideas of a provider in jimbaran area
If you can get a phone line, Speedy (Telkom) is your best choice. Otherwise I would check with Blueline or CBN...

Blueline, Bali Broadband Internet Access | Bali Broadband ISP, ISP Bali, Broadband Bali, ISP Broadband Bali, Bali Internet Access, Internet Service Provider (ISP) in Bali, Indonesia, Business, Home & WiFi Hotspots, Soho, Soho Lite, Internet Connectio

If you have a fixed phone line then Telkom Speedy (ADSL) may be your best bet. Look at TELKOM - Speedy and pick one of their high end options.
If you cannot get a fixed line and are in an area where Telkomsel provides good 3G coverage, then you could consider getting 3 or 4 SIM cards on the PRO post-paid package - see Paket Telkomsel Flash - Telkomsel. They provide 8GB at high speed per card, so then you cycle through them in each month. It's a bit of a fiddle needing to change cards - but it works and doesn't cost the earth.
BOTH GREAT ideas i am going to get a telephone line installed if i can convince my landlord hahah
Hi Effie. I live in Sanur and have a fast internet connection. (fast for bali is 1mbps - and I do get that speed.) It is normal broadband that comes through the telkom (telecom) landline to a wireless router. I pay 850 thousand Rupiah per month. That includes the phone line rental and the internet. The connection is completely unlimited with no speed restrictions or penalties. Bear in mind that not all houses have a phone line, though, and unlike most countries, you cannot ask for a line to be put in. :)
You are talking about Telkom Speedy which I mentioned above. Look back at that post for the web link that lists the plans and prices. A good option if you have a fixed phone line.
Hi knocky
Getting a new phone line installed isn't all that easy here. And I'm not sure of the situation around Jimbaran.i am having a little problem finding internet, i need to download around 20-30 gb a month with speeds around 1 mb/512k upload. any ideas of a provider in jimbaran area
I'm in Sanur, use Telkom Speedy and pay for the 2Mbs/512K unlimited package (speeds which I normally get). Costs about Rp 1 million/month.
I download heaps of stuff every day - maybe 5GB/day which is 60GB a month. Yeah - I know - I'm a download ******.
Works fine for me.
No shaping or limits of any kind, so far. Expensive as it is, relatively speaking, it's a lot cheaper than the alternatives.
Good luck with getting your landloard to install a phone line.
