Hey,
I am looking to move to the Sanur area in May.
I will really need an internet connection where I am living or an all night internet cafe nearby.
How much does it cost to get the internet installed?
How long does it take to get in?
Do they install broadband or can you only get dial up?
How fast is it?
I do not want it for downloading but browsing websites.
I was hoping for a 2mb connection that doesn't drop.
Is this very unrealistic?
Thanks
Effie
Try doing a search and you will find many of your questions answered previously.

Hello,
when I looked into the internet section of this forum it is empty accept for my post so I assumed that nobody had posted anything.
I have done a manual search on it now and found some answers thanks.
However, if I move into a new home (not found yet) in the Sanur area - will it take long to get the internet connected?
And is it possible to get the internet in Sanur?
I have seen that you can get a business internet package which is 3.4 mb.
I am not a business owner but would it be possible to get this package anyway?
Does anyone have any experience with this?
I saw that a guy mentions that he manages to get pretty much 100kbs most of the time - is that true in most experiences?
Thanks
I am not in Sanur, but Telekom Speedy is one of the main ISPs here. You will need a telephone line to connect though.
I am sure if you are prepared to pay for it, you can get any package you like.
Indonesia is ranked 129 in the world according to Speedtest for internet speed, which might give you some idea of what to expect.
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat drinking beer all day.
-Grinse-, very diplomatic Spicyayam...
To have an idea:
Speedy:
set up about 1- 1,5 mill.
500.000 p. month unlimited (dunno the exact speed, but it was acceptable)
Sanur is ok, a friend working online has one of 'fastest' connection. But not sure if Speedy is her provider.

And the whole question is: are we really supposed to shave the planet...?

Effie, are you planning to stay here short or longterm?
Are you a fun or a 'serious' surfer?
Staying in Sanur only or planning to move around?
You don't have to answer these questions to me, but you could think about it. 'Cause if you do stay short term & you are a fun surfer, you might think about using internetshops, restaurants/cafe's with (free) wifi. You also could think about mobile internetting.
Mini marts in the South... some of them have free wifi. A nice hang out as well.
I used to download heavy stuff (e.g.movies & music), but that I don't do anymore since I'm here.

Usually, speed varies to the place if it's a wireless connection. The consistency of the speed is impossible especially if you want a high speed connection. 1 mbps vs 2 mbps is almost the same if you stay in a secluded area in Bali.
Hey,
thanks for that. I am a serious surfer as I need to be able to be contacted for stuff back at home.
I am hoping to stay in Bali for a year and stay in one place.
I am not entirely sure where to stay.
When I visited Bali before we stayed for one month in Sanur and I really liked it there.
However we would be quite happy to stay anywhere really as long it wasn't too far away from food places.
The internet is the most important thing really - so would stay wherever that was best.
Anyone have any clues where it is best?
I have a contact in Bali although I do not know him well
(exchanged FB in a bar one noght when I was last in Bali so don't feel I can keep asking him)
but he said he gets 3mb internet - though most of the time it comes out at jus over a mb which is what I need - a 1mb that is one 1mb.
What are the internet dongles like?
I have read in the forum about them but I am still not sure what to make of it.
In the UK they are okay - they are about good enough to get a fuzzy skype pic on a 1mb connection.
Thanks in advance - sorry for all these questions.
You know, at first I thought this section of the forum was empty - then I realised that you need to set the filters to search it.
I am quite a savvy internet user and it wasn't that obvious to me!! x
