just to update the 411, its blazing fast.. using it right now, in umalas. signal is decent with the 3G, but if you're in denpasar or kuta area, u might get faster connection but with hsdpa phones.
tried it in discovery mall with their demo laptop,.. Woww.. faster than my speedy connection in jakarta..

...is it the 3G from Telkomsel? Or what other technology? And do you have any information regarding pricing?

hey guys, I was posting on another topic too, but we are desperate to find the fastest possible internet connection in Ubud. Thoughts? Any comments on the reliability/speed of satellite? what about getting set up, is it much of a process?

frozzty, ok, i'm a novice with this stuff.. some questions:

1. what does one need for this connection?
2. how does it work, i.e. is it wireless or cable?
3. how much is it?

Hi BaliLife, Ok, i answer your question. Yes you need at least a prepaid with lots of top up from telkomsel, works on any, kartu as, simpati, and Halo.

1. The Connection is fast, sorry, its faster than the warnet or free or paid wifi connection in Bali, yet what i've experience. i move around jakarta,bali,medan and bandung, they all have flash connection from telkomsel, wherever 3G signal is On, or the HSDPA signal is on. and the service works wherever you use it nationally.

2. it works like, connecting ur laptop or desktop to your 3g/hsdpa phones ie USB/Bluetooth. ie, using nokia: from nokia pc suite, make connection, connect, manual settings, username:flash leave it blank for others. Connected. Dido, u got a connection. open IE or Mozilla,etc.. Flash Page, purchase. Or you could buy the Hsdpa Modem on Rimo Computer Center.

3. minute usage i forgot, 3 hour for 24hour expiry is Rp50K, 24hour for 7days expiry Rp100. as now is still on Merdeka Promo, 50% discount. they also have monthly, starting from 100k-500k, http://www.telkomsel.com/web/pricing (in bahasa)

here's the list of area i've used in Bali with my laptop and nokia 6233. With 3G Coverage.
1.Bebek Bengil Ubud. dunno the villa/resort area.
2.Tuban Beach/Discovery area.
3.Kumala Pantai Hotel.Blue Ocean Area.
4.Umalas Villas Area.

yet 3g signal used to drop few times in a day. but its normal.
