Thread: Seratus Lima Belas, Durian, Pictures at an exhibtion

Today with Dewi and her grandfather to CrisisCare. There is something with his face. The tiger holds 3 easily, even 4 if necessary. When the dokter ask his age he says "seratus lima belas". 115. I look strange at Dewi. True ? I ask . Yes its true. He now has his 5th wife, but all his friends already died. Kasih an, Kaki. The dokter gives him some obat (medicine) and we leave. I take them to Warung Anda, the best Nasi Campur in Lovina. When we eat the grandfather looks at me and says something. I ask Dewi for a translation. He said that he was already over 40 when de Dutch left Bali. I feel strange, he looked a little angry, or is it my projection of feeling guilty? I am tired and drink a Kreating Deng (indonesian equivalent of a Red Bull) before we leave. The owner says I might need it and looks at Dewi, with a naughty face.


There is something strange with Durians. They are very expensive, a reasonable Durian is about 15.000 rp and there is very little fruit in the spikey thing. Ok, it has a very special distinctive taste, but its so little for the money.. Still the Balinese eat them a lot. Why ? Maybe they consider it a luxury thing or something.. a status fruit. Or maybe its the taste that comes back to you, sometimes, even after two or three hours....

On the door there is sign "Office" kindly donated by expat Jeroen Franken from the Netherlands. He builds bungalows in Bali. And, he is making a Dutch restaurant in Lovina. I got visions of Spain when I heard him telling it. But I look forward to the "Broodjes Kroket", "Frikandel Speciaal", "Patat Met" and what else he is planning to serve there. I spotted a "Friet van Piet" in Sanur a few months ago. Nobody there though.
