Kris Pictures Added

Postby Roy on Wed Oct 13, 2004 12:48 am

As per Bert’s request, I have up-loaded a number of photographs of kris from Indonesia in the new kris section of the photo gallery. The majority of these kris are from Bali, but examples from Java, and one Bugis kris from Sulawesi is also shown. All of these kris and kris handles are either from our collection, or our gallery inventory, past and present.

The subject of the kris is of course much too complex to thoroughly examine on a forum. However, there are a number of good books on the subject that I can recommend. In no particular order, some would be: THE KRIS, Mystic Weapon of the Malay World by Edward Frey, THE KRIS, An Earthly Approach to a Cosmic Symbol, by David van Duuren, KERIS BALI, by Ida Bagus Dibia, particularly useful as it is written in Indonesian, French and English and is also excellent to help identify the hundreds of various pamor that can be found on the blades, KERIS DI LOMBOK, by Ir. H. Lalu Djelenga, (in Indonesian only), and KERIS, Daya Magic-Manfaat-Tuah-Misteri, by Ki Hudoyo Doyodipuro, (again, only in Indonesian).

We hope you enjoy our pictures!

I've only now had time to look at all the Kris photos. That's quite a collection Roy! I had no idea that Kris' were such works of art.

How long have you been collecting?

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed them. It took about seven years to put this collection together. Most all the Balinese kris were purchased directly from the families where they were considered Pusaka. Those, I will not sell, wishing instead that they remain on Bali, and someday owned by my sons.

Thank you Bert,

All of those keris and accesories are very impressive. Useful for me. Many ivory handle made by excellent carving, specially the Raksaksha Handle. It is a beautiful piece, I think.
I enjoy to looking for this site for now. I'll give the comment again later.

Thank U.
Hidayat.
