    good one hermit,
Aloha, what are your criteria's? and for how long do you wanna rent?
    This is my criteria:
3 bdrm/ 3 bath villa fully furnished with pool
    1yr rental contract
    easy commute to BIS
    budget $16,800-18,000/yr
secured area- safety is a concern
preferably need closed villa as we have an indoor cat

From my experience, your expectations against your dollars are a-ok. A 3B pool 1yr for 16-18K (I assume you mean US?) is in the bullseye. If your "realtor" isn't helping, it's not you. -AB

PS: We worked with a realtor for a couple days but found it a total waste, opened the Bali Advertiser and just cruised around and found a bunch of options. In my opinion, all a realtor does is add a level of cost and take you to a bunch of places no body wants.

Thanks AB for your input...we did have a successful trip as we found our new home, visited our kids new school and got a little aquainted with Sanur area. The villa has everything we were asking for and most importantly a perfect landlord.

Aloha, yes it is possible to find a place and secure it within five days if you have Makua on your side. And yes for your budget you should have no problem finding a very nice residence. Do you have any friends here (other than your agent) that could perhap scope out the Sanur area for you, so you can hit the ground running when you get off the plane. You will need all the time you can get looking and negotiating. Never let them know you are short on time or in anyway desperate. But I am sure you already knew that. If I happen to see anything in that area I will take down the info for you and PM you with it. Can you give me a little info as to the size and amenities you are looking for?

Only yesterday I was told the story of some tourists coming to Sanur in the last week and looking for a house. They found one in no time and happily paid their lease in advance. ( by the time I heard it, the story was that they had paid two years up front). They then returned home.
Alas the money was not paid to the actual owner of the property.
So when these tourists come back to take charge of their "new" house they will find that they in fact have nothing.
It is a sad story but more than likely true.

Yes, that is pretty sad...luckily, our referrals came from reliable resources and was very lucky to secure a villa from a repected lanlord within the community...
