Markitt,
Is Lovina generally considered a little hotter than elsewhere in Bali? I thought the east coast (Amed etc) held that title? Doesn't really matter I'm hot anywhere there.
Sad if you're correct about the fiddlers
But you're right about the sidewalks it's really one of those most basic rules of life that we take for granted......look where you are walking  There were a few nasty pot holes in the road coming down the mountain from memory too. I know my gf hit just about everyone of them
Spicy as a matter of interest what was the attraction that made you decide to settle (temporarily) in Lovina?
Hearsay Rules..OK
Regards Jimbo
I went to Lovina on my first trip to Indonesia around 18 years ago and had some nice memories of the place. It's my first time back since then. It's pretty quiet here, which suits me. The beach is not so great for swimming, but it's ok. Sunsets are pretty nice.
It's the kind of place people either like it or don't, if that makes any sense.
Yes, it is pretty hot here but it's fairly cool now in the evenings. I love the hot weather so it's not really a problem for me and I am fine without AC.
It's hotter in Australia during summer. It is dry, but people still seem to be able to maintain nice gardens.
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat drinking beer all day.
Bert, rest assured if I knew who or where you would have to stand in line to get at em.
Scum of the earth - I aint done much of note in this life yet but I did manage to get one of them put away in Germany for a couple of years and I think that kind of makes my account look a little better - at least to me, anyway.
I spent a lot of time in Lovina and as yet have not heard of any real paedo's since the documentory on the TV [I'm sure they must exist as they must anywhere] There are plenty of people who have been accused of it with malice, [as its a very effective way of causing trouble for an expat what with a "documentory to back it up."] I know one expat is being talked about as a paedo, simply because he has the same first name as the guy in the documentory and he lives in the north. I know he is of good character and he is persuing ther matter through his lawers with the aim of having his day in court. It's a very damaging slander.
I find it sad that the rest of the Island sees [or at least likes see] North Bali as a nest of paedo's. I love the area, and I feel so much better than the noisy westernised south. But hey, that's just personal choice.
I suppose is does have it's avantages in keeping property and rent prices at a lower level than the South, but I am always worried a bit of the dirt rubs of on "normal" people who want to settle there. We all know how powerfull gossip is here in Bali.
Also the way people hail the north as a paedo haven might even attract them here and put our children in danger.
There is no place for paedo's in Bali [or on this earth] but please be carefull with generalisations about whole areas of this beautiful Island. It will be more damaging to the regular polpulation than the sicko's
Anyway I've said my bit, sorry about any obvious spelling mistakes.
Mat what you say is completely right and I am very sorry to have repeated what I admitted above to be a rumour on my part. But if you read my second post on the matter (which as usual is way, way off subject and for that I also apologize) you will also see that I do have some unfortunate personal experience of paedophiles and for that reason alone I would say it's much better to be warned and suspicious of everyone than to be sorry about something happening to one of your own or someone near.
Unfortunately in the "modern" world we (I'm afraid I do mean "men") must be considered guilty until proven innocent. Personally I don't dare play with children the way I was played with as one - no more rough and tumble that kids and adults so love or if so then only after permission is given or my own children are there too. It's terribly sad but there it is...
Indonesia is a well known target for pedos and that is the way it is. It is a fact of life and the only protection against it is to stay away from children. Completely! A meagre protection at best and practically impossible.
About the north of the island, I had originally heard about the problem from someone that had moved away from there because of it - not only that reason but it was a factor he said.
When I was researching were I wanted to live here I was initially very taken with the area around Lovina and I just love the name too... but there are some strange (for the want of a better word) "vibes" up there. Nothing I could put a finger on but the older I've gotten the more I've learned to trust those "vibes" (don't you just miss the 70s?). But each to his own and if you have good experiences there then I'm sure it's the best spot on the island. Sorry again.
Stuck in the East where all the problems are GAY  I have to keep saying that the Best Woman in the Universe (BWU) is coming next week, month, season, etc.
Luckily I'm way past being of any interest to anything but my dog. and the very drunk or desperate.

I have read stories in Australian newspapers of pedophiles living in Indonesia including Bali and Lombok, but it was the first I have heard of Lovina being mentioned.
The area does seem to getting more popular with a lot of new developments popping up. Property prices are pretty cheap compared with the south and it seems to be more popular with Europeans than Australians.

I stay in Lovina rather than in my husbands village when we go up for ceremonies etc. It's okay but it wouldnt be a place I would choose to live. Just doesnt appeal for some reason and the beach also isnt great.
