Well, if that’s the case...a lack of 100% trust, and no Indonesian recognized marital status, then you should rent until you are ready for the big commitment. That is only my humble opinion.

Otherwise, your GF, and nominee (one in the same), holds all the cards, and it really doesn’t matter what Nortaris arrangements you have made “to protect yourself.” You are only a King without clothes.

Having a GF as nominee land owner is like Russian roulette...except there is one difference. Unlike normal Russian roulette, played with a six chamber revolver and one bullet, you are playing with a six chamber revolver and five bullets.

    Good luck and best wishes.
Haha , I like the analogy..
Yes Roy, upon further checking and a LOT of soul searching, I think this may be the safer way to go for the time being. The GF obviously wants the security of owning but I want the security of knowing my investment is safe.
Renting for a year or 2 will also enable me to keep working in Australia knowing that I don't have to worry about whether she is busy arranging to sell . Maybe a visit to you with my GF and talking to the very astute Eri may allay some of my concerns in such a big step.
    Thanks Roy.

    Cheers
    Ken

Ken, it wasn’t my business to make the comment I did, but, on the other hand, I don’t take any pleasure in seeing expats ebb like the tide either.

Please forgive me for my indiscretion, and best wishes to you both.

Roy, the thing I like about this forum is that sometimes the hard questions have to be answered truthfully and based on experience, which you have in Bali , and sometimes the answers aren't what the poster wants to hear..
You are not the only one and people like Jimbo, Dr Bruce, Bert , Thorsten who are all married or heavily involved with Asian/ Indonesian women give an insight into Bali and the relationships between Bule and locals that other forums cannot.

I tend to get a little tired of opening some of the "other" forums and get endless posts about costs of plane tickets and " X amount of sleeps before I am in Bali ". :(

So coming on here, getting some solid answers from people who aren't afraid to ruffle a few feathers now and again ( and no, it is not targetted at only you Roy ) is worth more to me as a prospective Expat than any other forum.

    Indescretion away Roy.. :) :)

    Cheers
    Ken

I hate ruffling feathers. Anyway, we spend way more than anybody else here. I'd put us at around 19 million a month with all the kids' school fees and trips and we don't use insurance.

Be interesting to see a breakdown on what you spend Doc. Unless it is international school fee's seems a lot. Not that I begrudge a few comforts if thats where the money goes :D
    Regards Jimbo
