Just wondering what the second hand car market is like.. Could I expect to get something decent for around $10,000AUD/80 million rupiah?
Thanks for any advice
So your budget is about half the cost of a lower end new car. Cars hold their value better than in countries like Australia - roughly they lose only 10% per year. So on you budget you would be looking at cars maybe 6 or more years old.
But since they hold their value better, buying new cars can make more sense.
Any advice on where to look for a solid, used car?
We are currently looking in the budget range of 50 million IDR or less - I am thinking to get an old taxi.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Bali Advertiser, second hand car sales shops on the road, privately advertised cars [from adverts in car windows.]
What part of Bali are you in? I have a Suzuki Katana [Jimmy] that clean and all up together that is reliable if you are interested. It's in the north. New t bars, hand brake, indicators, seat belts, battery. Has mag wheels, nice seats, regularly serviced and tinted windows with AC [stands out from most others of the same make]. Pretty good on bad roads and very cheap to maintain/run. 1st reg Oct 1993, but looks good. I'm off to the UK for 6 months soon and will need to upgrade as I have a baby now and want something I can fit a baby seat in.
Will be going down south soon for business.
Oh yes, never been stopped by the police in it over the last 2 years. Bonus !

Here's a photo, to give some idea. Not thought about selling it before. was going to hire it out to get some income.
old taxi?? don't know what's 'old' in your book, but the vios ex-taxi is surprisingly expensive second-hand...no where near the 50jt you're willing to spend. but guessing you're looking for a 'sedan' type of car and to give you an idea of what to expect-----
1997 toyota corolla 1.6L 58jt
1986 honda accord 25jt
1988 daihatsu charade 25jt
1994 suzuki esteem 1.6L 40jt
don't read between the lines..i think the words are clear enough...:)
For those members who are not yet proficient in bahasa Indonesia:
"juta" or "jt" = million in English
Thanks for the replies. Also wondering if long-term car rental (12 months) is a good option or usually works out too expensive?
