If you are on a tourist visa, I guess you need a local to be the "owner" of the bike, and then the insurance would be in the name of the owner - but I don't think there would be any problems. Of course, when making a claim, you would need a signature from the owner.

I'm interested in knowing about about bike insurance too. Used Phantom, 2008. Finally paid deposit on my bike & should have it within days - YAY!!!

are you using finance or gonna pay the whole amount at once?

if using finance, and thus pay per month an x amount..then within this payment there's insurance included.
if you buy and pay the price in one time, there's no insurance included in that,
but the place where you have bought that bike..can arrange insurance for you. As a matter of fact they will be glad to do so, since the get some kind of one time commision for it.

in your case Latah, you can go to your bank..BCA or any other, and bring the BPKB and STNK of the bike and take an insurance out on that bike.

    Cool

I will have to look in to that Gilbert because when I paid for my bike in full, I couldn't get insurance. If I was paying the bike off I could get insurance for the paying of the bike not repair of the bike. I know you can get insurance on a Harley but standard bike?

as far as i know..if one buys a 'normal' bike like yamaha jupiter (and the likes) using finance...damages are also included and theft too. I bought one for my GF a year ago, paid in cash and
asked for insurance on the bike...had to wait almost 2 months for the BPKB to be ready, but when the BPKB came out, the dealer hooked me up with an insurance.
so maybe it's depending on the dealer?

So who did you bike dealer hook you up with Gilbert?
Best I found so far is if I finance the bike it comes with thief insurance only but still looking.
I replaced some forks on a little bike yesterday that was in a crash (3 months old) still under finance and no collision cover.

No need for insurance....in Indonesia, if you have an accident with a car, the car always pays (cash) if you are on a motor....that is if you aren't dead.....if you were to hit a person they would also expect cash, and probably a ride to the hospital on top of that........
