    Question General Item Costs

    Hi All,

    Can I please have some indication of costs in Bali; Costs of simple things;

    Milk?
    Bread?
    Rice?
    Chicken?
    A good steak?

Any other things you may know the price of...?

    Thanks

There is also a section here that has all that info and much more, however a good steak is very hard to find.

Milk? I think at bintang for 1 litre not fresh milk its between 8-11k for Ultra Milk
Bread? 7700 for local bread, 13000 for half decent bread
Rice? Cheaper to buy cooked than raw apparently - This is going off of my boyfriends advice though so Im not sure - we pay 5000 for enough to feed 6 from the warung.
Chicken? If you go to a food market you can get 1.5 kg for 35,000 (a local can anyway) I think your paying about double that at Bintang however every time I buy meat from Bintang its always very.. off putting. The smell, the appearance, the texture so I tend to not go there for much
A good steak? Staks Bar & Grill is a good one, Warung Brasil do a nice import t bone (nice not great) for 40,000 in kuta, Goku do the best ribs you can ask for for 28,000. Kuta Steak House next to Kuta Town houses in Poppies 1 is also meant to be good.

Any other things you may know the price of...?
A tyre puncture should only cost 5-15,000 (AT MOST WHEN YOUR GETTING RIPPED)
You should only pay traffic police I believe its 50,000 for western
Rice paper (if you love rice paper rolls) is insanely expensive as is the old cliche vegemite.
If you have kids/sun smart make sure you stock up on sunblock
Alot of medicines are alot cheaper here than at home - I pay 4.5 million for a script of medication at home for 1 month here I pay 100,000 for the same things.
Visa extension if done by yourself is 250,000 plus donations - agent will be 600 - 650
Petrol is 4500 per litre at the station, 5000 for 700mls in the streets.
    Electricity is expensive.

Sometimes its worth going to look in Bali Deli for a few things - Edamame beans are 12,000 a kg - everywhere else surpasses this, Capsicums again are really cheap as well as some alcohol and western food products, Bacon is quite cheap compared to the crap mamas call bacon. dont get too caught up in there because you will find a very big hole in your pocket

Some things you will SAVESAVESAVE! other things will blow your mind at how expensive they can be.

You can buy 25kg of rice for about 160,000. Most bread is sold in small packs rather than the big loaves you buy in Australia. Some brands are better than others. A whole chicken at Hardys is about 20-30,000 depending on the size.
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat drinking beer all day.

I buy Exelso coffee and the price has gone up by over 50% in the last couple of weeks - but I think that's a world-wide thing, still hurts paying that much more.
