Default The Cost Of Giving Birth

    Hi

I am going to pay the hospital bills for a family member to give birth in Denpasar.

I was just wondering if anyone can give me a ballpark figure of what to expect.

    Thanks
    Gemma

I spoke with one of the waitresses at the Pacung Indah(Baturitti, Bali),our conversation was about cost of child birth at the hospital. She said it cost 2.5 juta,I just got our bill for delivery here in U.S.A. via cesarian,$30,000U.S., thank God we have insurance!!!

Bert! Do you have news that you haven’t shared yet?

Gemma, for a local, the estimate for a normal birth at Sanglah sounds about right...2.5 million or there about. If the birth is to be in one of the specialty maternity hospitals, like Casa Ibu, it will run more. If a C-section is involved, double the 2.5 million.

Of key importance is that the hospital, or birthing facility, do NOT know the bill is to be paid by a bule, meaning you of course. The charges will be higher, by at least 20% or more.

When Bima was born, six years ago, I threw a fit that our charges were higher just because my Balinese wife was married to a bule, but over time, and two more kids, I accepted the idea that we subsidize, to some extent, lower birthing costs for the locals. That could all be just one big scam, but if it’s true that we bule pay a little more, and that helps to keep it more affordable for the locals, I don’t have a problem with that.

Finally, I applaud your generosity! Well done!

Thanks guys, so it looks like it could be anything between 2-5 juta depending on the hospital & if a c section is needed. This is the mother's third child & the previous two were born naturally, so I would hope this little boy will too. Especially as Made & I will be adopting him :D :D :D

Gemma, congratulations on your coming adoption. As Irma points out, once the first arrives, everything changes...mostly for the better! :P

    Thanks guys.

I am really excited about this but also pretty scared!

And I hear about how many people adopt & then find themselves preganant so we could end up with two :-)

Someone else has told me that at the scan they often say it is a boy even if they dont really know, just say what they think you want to hear so now I dont know whether to belive it is a boy or not but thats ok cause I was kind of hoping for a girl anyway. The baby is due July/August. Despite the scan they havent been more specific. So I could mbe a mum as soon as next month.

I will be sure to let you know how I get on.
