Gongchime just a little update. If you get a visa on arrival you MUST leave after 30 days and no extentions. You can return and get another next day but you must leave the country first.
My genuine advice is to do a lot more research. Just do a search here and input VISA and you will see many answers on that subject. Good luck
Regards Jimbo
Bert, summing up the #s is an essential fisrt step of starting a homestay. If you didn't know that much and/or can't do it, then you won't be successful doing it anywhere Bali Lombok or wherever.
Also, knowing something about hospitality would be beneficial but not essential.Surprisingly, some people can learn what they dont' already know.
To evaluate my marketing skills go have a look at my 2,000 ******* friends. All of which are high quality contacts. 99% of which are enlightened people who are the kind that would take an exotic vacation. 150 of which have opted into my mailing list.
LCD, RIMO LDS CIA FBI JFK LBJ... What are you talking about?
The molloccas perhaps deserve a look.
BaliLife, someone already told me to make sure the person "selling" me the house isn't just subletting to me or is subletting it themselves. Thanks for giving me the heads up though.
Jimbo, more research. Will do.
Where fo find if there's an Indonesian embassy in Seoul Korea on the internet is my next qustion.
Deals can be found. You have to be careful if it's looks too good to be true though, naturally. There may be more of a reason than the seller needs the money. Have to ask the neighbors and the neighbors gardener etc... what's up with the property.
True.Surprisingly, some people can learn what they dont' already know.
You must be busy.To evaluate my marketing skills go have a look at my 2,000 ******* friends. All of which are high quality contacts.
LCD = Liquid Crystal Display, those Flat Screen monitors.LCD, RIMO LDS CIA FBI JFK LBJ... What are you talking about?
RIMO is a Big Store in Denpasar
Concerning rudeness Bert. Here are examples from your own post;
1. Is it cheaper to rent than to own a home in Indonesia? That seems to be the case in Thailand.
What kind of home? a 200.000 USD Villa or a 200 million BTN ?
Are you playing stupid because it was clearly said a modest bungalow.
2.If I wanted to buy a very modest bungalow/homestay type of building how many rooms would it require to make a profit of more than 10% return on the investment?
Its not a matter of how many rooms, its a matter of how many guests you can get
Actually it's both. You didn't answer the question and chose to say that instead based on some motive. Probably to imply Gong is stupid for not asking how many guests can be got. What is that motive Bert? How about trying to actually answer questions you're asked?
3. How cheaply can they be purchased for?
Cheap. How cheap can you buy a car?
Again, not an answer. Later you said the question was vague. Actually it's quite specific. Don't want to answer direct questions put to you and claim they're vague for some reason. Still don't want to venture an answer Bert? Other people were able to give their answers. Why can't you? You're too special?
8.Does it flood there?
Where?
Again, not an answer. Does it flood in Bali or Lombok? Duh! If you knew of an area that floods then it would be obvious to relate that at this point. Otherwise say you don't know.
9.When buying an investment property, what kind of restrictions on building and conducting business do people usually come across?
Ownership, business structure, licenses
Another vague answer to a specific question.
What's your deal Berty old buddy old pal of mine? Don't like the Gongster? Imagine you're better than everyone else and can treat them badly? Don't like people coming to Bali or Lombok and ruining your fractured paradise even more?
Want to imply that people without lots of money shouldn't come here? Would like to belittle me because you imagine you're more successful and one of my "betters?" Yesm masser.
Shame me for wanting an accountant? Not shamed. No one is buying any of the crap you're dishing out. From now on, everyone on the forum should not recommend going to you for answers because you probably won't say what you really do know and engage in shame tactics instead.
You've had absolutely no effect on my self-esteem or my determination. You didn't make a fool out of me at any point. Seems to me you've made yourself look like the horses petuttie instead.
And DCC, you imagine the gongster will be doing any business with you in the future? You're deluded.
I am sorry that you think I have been rude, and didn't fulfill your expectations.
No. But I am no tourist or investment office where you can ask for information, and then go to the complaints department if you don't get what you want.Imagine you're better than everyone else and can treat them badly?
I came here 5 years and 5 days ago with USD 20.000 in my pocket. I am still here.Want to imply that people without lots of money shouldn't come here?
So I can hardly tell others to bring a million, now can I?
Like before, sorry, if I didn't fulfill your expectations. But I am not "a service bureau" rolling out the red carpet for people asking vague questions. If you ask more specific questions I, and others, would be able to help. What is that motive Bert? How about trying to actually answer questions you're asked?
If you ask "Does it Flood" what do you want me to do? Give you a geographical survey of Bali? How detailed do you want it?
If you ask "When buying an investment property, what kind of restrictions on building and conducting business do people usually come across? "
What do you want me to do to make you happy? Give you 10 samples, write an essay for you? And if i don't I "feel better than you" ?
Good, it wasn't my intention. You've had absolutely no effect on my self-esteem or my determination
Gong, this forum is not an information desk where you can come in, take your info and live happily after that.
What you have done until now on the forum, is asking questions, trying out your ideas, and picking brains.
This forum has just a small number of regulars, each with their own quirks, but all together they have a shitload of experience.
My guess is that if you don't treat them as an info desk, you may learn something.
Hmm. What's this all about?
Housing costs vary enormously depending, of course, on where you live. You can find some nice, very cheap land up in the hills in the north. Like anywhere else in the world, you pay for location.
If I was twenty years younger, I would forgo Bali and live on another island (well like I do most of the year) with a less developed tourist industry and less competition.
We built (our most recent house) in Sumbawa for 200 million and that's 430 square meters with expat bathrooms and a 100 square meter kitchen, five bedrooms with 10,000 watts of electricty. The land was one million per are. I know a guy who just sold some beautiful land on a gorgeous beach for a million per are. It's not Seminyak (thank god), but it's a lovely place to live. There are some tourist facilties being built there, but it will be another five to ten years before things get going.
I'd stay there forever if I was younger, but I have this need to be somewhere closer than 7 hours to a good doctor and a hospital in case the indignities of old age happen to visit me. And, the kids need a good high school and we just don't have one yet so we're moving back to the house in Bali (we're here right now getting my eldest enrolled in school) and renovating parts of the house.
Umm, the point? Right, if you don't have a lot of money, try a less traveled place and build it up.
Oh, you might not be quite so cranky, as Bert said we all have some quirks (well except for me).
Hear hear!
Thanks for the post Dr. Bruce. We all need to give and take in this world. You seem to mostly give. Ina and I really enjoy reading everything you have written.
Cheers!
