Hi,
Having inherited a little money, I was initially looking for a 'holiday villa' that may also prove to be a suitable investment opportunity. As countless other have done, I trawled the various property sites, read the excellent series of essays by Gary Dean, debated about forming a PMA, then stumbled across this expats forum - which meant a complete re-think. I believe it was Roy who succintly argued the case for leasing rather than outright purchase, in order that the Balinese do not sell their children's 'inheritance'. Not perhaps acceptable for the hard-nosed business, but far more likely to be 'accepted' by the local community.
At present, I have 'revised' any business plans back to a blank sheet, and decided to see for myself. I shall be in Bali between Jan30 and Feb 10, and would appreciate any directions to the local expats' watering-holes in Ubud (Roy?), Lovina (Bert?), Amed and Candidasa.

Sean, "watering holes" in Ubud sounds good to me. The "word" is that I know something about such things.
Sorry, but I can't help you with the real esate thing, but Bert can...and he most certainly can be trusted.
I'm here when you will be, although I have a group of 10 Californians I promised a "dadong" experience. That means they're all going to have lunch (or their final meal) at my mother in law's compound February 5.
Anyway, once done cremating all these West Coast, wannaby in Bali folks, you will have my undivided attention. Phone, (0361) 974445.
