My two-cents-worth.
I believe you said you are not looking for antiques per se, but only "old things of value." In Bali, there are practically no real "antiques" to speak of. I realise that some antique dealers claim that their "antiques" are certified by some Government agency, or whatever, but this is Indonesia, and I know from a highly reputable dealer in Seminyak that, with a little "grease"...well, you get my meaning.
You do find "old things" from Bali and from other Indonesian islands. Since it is not my business, I have no idea how one goes about getting them. Based on my observations, one does not just go around Balinese villages looking for old things being sold in "flee markets:" they just don't exist.
However, during my last short trip to Bali, I was struck by the proliferation of "antique shops." On Monkey Forest, Ubud, I counted no less that five antique shops, replacing the numerous jewlery shops of few years ago. In Legian - Seminiak is even more noticable.
Good luck.
Keep on smiling.
Daniel
