15-03-2010 Karangasem, what a beautiful, beautiful region this is! The area between Padang Bai and Amed was so beautiful (especially close to Amed with its baby mountains), that I wouldn’t mind living here. The other time I felt this was at the Buddist temple up in the mountain when I overlooked the area (near Lovina) And it is only after almost 4 months I looked above and saw how many stars shine upon Bali. And they were so ...

14-03-2010 Offering rituals and ceremonies… Religion or habit…?
Amed 14-03-2010 Dearest Bali, With your offerings and ceremonies, Rituals to keep bad spirits away Don’t stare blind on the foreigner’s (cash) flow Or your holy spirit will break one day.
11-03-2010 Every Wednesday and Thursday ‘cultural’ (non-commercial) movies are shown on a big flatscreen at the Black Beach Sand Restaurant in Jalan Hanoman. It is on the topfloor. During the movie I sometimes got distracted by the footsteps (flipflops?) of the waitress and by the traffic. And although it’s not as comfy as at home, I really did appreciated the initiative for this restau-cinema and their moviechoice. And if I’d crave for some pasta, I’d probably ...
10-03-2010 The Balinese like to tell about hardship they face today, Westerners like to tell about their traumas of the past. This week, I think I prefer the Balinese way …
09-03-2010 I asked youngsters to name popular Indonesian bands. They recommended: Armada Dewa 19 D’ Masiv Fentoozler Kotak Peterpan Versa Vierra Ziga Bunga Citra Lestari When I hear Asian rock, I always find it so sweet and innocent. I haven’t crossed an Asian Rammstein yet ;-) I like “Jangan Menyerah” (D’Massiv) for breakfast: YouTube ...
As a teen- and twenty-ager my habit was to decide to travel only a few days before departure. With only a bag, passport and ticket I hopped on a plane. I never brought a travelguide such as Lonely Planet with me, because I wanted to “discover” the world myself. I never read about the destination either for the same reason. A year ago I started this Asia-tour and for this I had prepared myself by surfing on internet. The thing is that I’d been searching for practicalities such as ...
I have had a fever and head ache for most of last and finally starting to feel normal again. It seems like a lot of people in my area have had similar illness and some people even getting dengue fever. I am now trying to catch up a bit on the forum and responding to emails and private messages.
Blogging… isn’t this something you do in the restroom…? OK, let’s get started… Well, I used to be the kind of person who stayed away from tourist places as far as I could. And as Bali was synonym to the regular sun-beach-having fun-holiday destination, it had not my attention at all. It's this one little English expat living in the Phills to blame for the fact I am here. He was on Bali a couple of decades ago and the stories he told me awakened my interest. ...

Hi All, This is our first Post. We co-own a new villa in Sanur. In recent months the water coming from the tap (from the ground) has developed an anaerobic, suplhur smell. We cannot use for cooking. Showering is unpleasant due to smell. Can anyone explain this recent change. Where can we get the water tested? We are worried about our health. Any water filtering companies worth contacting? Regards, Apsara

Hello to all, Is it ok if I open a tread on finding a relationship in Bali, I mean I do not want be non PC here. The retiring baby boomers are really starting to come on stream and a lot of then being either single, divorced or married are looking at retiring in Bali or are already living there. I my self am divorced and have only hung around in Australia while my children were still kids. Well they are all over 21 now so I do not have to feel guilty about leaving and retiring to ...
My friend asked my if I would edit a paper for her. I was more than happy to try and help her out. It's on language aquisition for bilingual children, so while it is a little bit interesting, it is taking me much longer than I thought. I went to university before the days of the www. Now, as I am trying to read through this paper, I keep getting distracted by all of the stuff that is happening on my computer, email/facebook/twitter/skype/YM, my mobile and of course this forum. ...
Things are really beginning to look serious now and what with the work on the roof coming along nicely I thought it was about time to catch up on the photos too. Couple of shot of Selat and the big boy (Mt. Agung) in the background, not off subject cause I went up there looking for bedeg that wonderful woven/plaited bamboo which everyone ignores but can be sooo beautiful if done right. Hope you enjoy and, as always, constructive, funny and envious comments are ...
I thought that I may as well be the first one who makes a blog post. Miso asked what's the difference between a blog and a forum post. On a forum like this, I don't think there will ever be a clear distinction. I think the reason why a person will want to write a blog post here is that they want to write something a little more personal. Jim and Bert both kept blogs here on the site and ...
