A crime wave seems to be underway in Penestanan, reports of a recent armed robbery taking place at Villa Om and other burglaries taking place recently one should take extra precautions.
Nothing new about it ... been happening for years on and off in that area ...
it's a shame this is happening and seems to be on the increase over quite a few places in Bali.
The 'reports' of an armed robbery are not entirely accurate--there was a robbery during the night, but no one saw or confronted the thieves. The local residents of Penestanan have formed a security detail in which 13 men patrol the area every night from 11:00 PM until 5:00 AM--everyone is concerned and the hope is to eradicate the image of Penastanan as a crime area.

Not really sure why all this is happening but it is a sad fact it is and is begining to remind of my years of living in Sydney.....who really wants to live like that? I know I would prefer to not to. I had an sms from my Balinese friend this morning saying that his brothers had caught a guy trying to break in to their neighbours house, they called the police and he was taken away..... I now live in Bali because I can live a better life and also because of my love for the Balinese and their culture and I would hate to see any increase in violence of any kind put upon the island. I just don't know where all this is stemming from......maybe the western culture has a lot to answer for....but that's just my thoughts. To me Bali is still the most beautiful island with the most beautiful people who leave an everlasting love in the hearts of so many people.
[B]HANDBAG SNATCH AT THE PENESTANAN STEPS - 12-Dec- 2010 - 10:30 PM/B] I was sitting in the front seat of a friend's car with the door open (foolish me) when someone grabbed my handbag off my lap. The thief jumped on the back motorcycle and went up the Penestanan Road. I recently heard that all the motorbikes left at the steps were recently stripped. BEWARE!
