Joehoe! It took me more than a year, but I finally faced my fear... I rented the bloodsy thing today and I started riding right a way. Mmm... do I hear " Get the motor running, heading for the highway..." ?
16-03-2010 3 days ago I decided to leave Ubud to spend Nyeple-day in Amed. Walking in the streets and roads was not allowed on Nyepi, but at least I could swim in the sea. All I needed was a seaside accommodation. Well… forget it, even walking on the beach and swimming is not allowed. The Nyepi-security told me precisely what I could and couldn’t do this day. After 7AM the silent day starts for 24 hours. I’ve been in my room now since 7.00AM without tv & ...
15-03-2010 Karangasem, what a beautiful, beautiful region this is! The area between Padang Bai and Amed was so beautiful (especially close to Amed with its baby mountains), that I wouldn’t mind living here. The other time I felt this was at the Buddist temple up in the mountain when I overlooked the area (near Lovina) And it is only after almost 4 months I looked above and saw how many stars shine upon Bali. And they were so ...

11-03-2010 Every Wednesday and Thursday ‘cultural’ (non-commercial) movies are shown on a big flatscreen at the Black Beach Sand Restaurant in Jalan Hanoman. It is on the topfloor. During the movie I sometimes got distracted by the footsteps (flipflops?) of the waitress and by the traffic. And although it’s not as comfy as at home, I really did appreciated the initiative for this restau-cinema and their moviechoice. And if I’d crave for some pasta, I’d probably ...
10-03-2010 The Balinese like to tell about hardship they face today, Westerners like to tell about their traumas of the past. This week, I think I prefer the Balinese way …
09-03-2010 I asked youngsters to name popular Indonesian bands. They recommended: Armada Dewa 19 D’ Masiv Fentoozler Kotak Peterpan Versa Vierra Ziga Bunga Citra Lestari When I hear Asian rock, I always find it so sweet and innocent. I haven’t crossed an Asian Rammstein yet ;-) I like “Jangan Menyerah” (D’Massiv) for breakfast: YouTube ...
As a teen- and twenty-ager my habit was to decide to travel only a few days before departure. With only a bag, passport and ticket I hopped on a plane. I never brought a travelguide such as Lonely Planet with me, because I wanted to “discover” the world myself. I never read about the destination either for the same reason. A year ago I started this Asia-tour and for this I had prepared myself by surfing on internet. The thing is that I’d been searching for practicalities such as ...
Blogging… isn’t this something you do in the restroom…? OK, let’s get started… Well, I used to be the kind of person who stayed away from tourist places as far as I could. And as Bali was synonym to the regular sun-beach-having fun-holiday destination, it had not my attention at all. It's this one little English expat living in the Phills to blame for the fact I am here. He was on Bali a couple of decades ago and the stories he told me awakened my interest. ...
