I have membership, but not the evacuation insurance - probably I should.
This is not what you usually think of as medical insurance because many things are not covered. The membership covers all GP visits, but you pay for tests, X-rays, specialists, hospital stays, etc. Their fees for these things are higher than at places like Sanglah, but are not too bad. If you just need to see a specialist they will quote a price to have the specialist come to BIMC, or else give you a referral to go the specialist in his/her own consulting rooms.
The evacuation insurance would protect you from that small risk of a massive cost. I guess it would be wise to read the details of the process to decide if you need to be evacuated.
Hi Tiggy...Matsaleh have already aswered your question :-).....it takes quite a bit of organisation....coming over for 1 year....I have been in the same boat and I will arrive Sunday in Bali...will go the 12th of June to The Netherlands and will be back in Ubud in August and stay then till February next year.I want to do the visa run to Singapore in August so that I dont have to go to immigration every month...Good luck with everything....
If anyone needs a hand with this, let me know. I can put you in touch with someone who can help
google a company called worldnomads they look pretty good
and it looks like it can work well for expats who live in bali but leave every now and then
i was with expacare but its too expensive and difficult to make a claim
good luck
What is tricky with this insurance,is that it is for 12 month. If you want to extend, any illness contracted will not be covered in the next 12 month. So only suitable for people who will be here for no more than 12 month and then return to their home country.
And it is only for people who have permanent residency in another country anyway.
Figured I'd add to this thread instead of making a whole new one. I'm navigating the insurance minefield and have it down to 2 providers.
Warning to the scuba divers (I know there aren't a ton of us here) - 1cover does NOT cover you for diving unless your c-card is from Australia, OR you're with an instructor. Doesn't matter to them that the certification agencies are worldwide.... My card was issued in Australia, but since I did the OW and AOW in bali they are not 100% I would be covered. Not a risk I really want to take if I had to go for a chamber ride $$$$. Thank god I rang them cos I don't have DAN insurance atm and was going to buy with 1cover again.
Now its the choice of a comprehensive company with no excess for $560ish (found a great coupon for TID), or a cheaper one at $340 with a $130 excess. From what I read its a crap fight to get any insurance companies to pay claims (other than medical) without a hassle and appeal so now its weighing up if its worth having no excess or just paying for cheap visits myself since costs there are not insane unless you're seriously sick.
My brain hurts now.
I would suggest the cheaper option, then pay small expenses yourself. More or less anything you have done as an out-patient will be under that excess - it's only when you stay in hospital that costs escalate.
