Hi all,
I would like to inquire if anybody of you has the same problem with internet banking now.
I have an account with Permata Bank (one Rupies account and one Euro account). I had access to internet banking on the rupies account so that I could check my balance and make necessary payments also from Austria. For some days now I am not able to login. I went to my branch of Permata bank to solve this problem. To my big surprise I was told that from now on I need to have a Blackberry to access Internet Banking! This sounds so ridiculous that I simply cannot believe this. I cannot imagine that every person who uses internet for banking affairs now has to go and buy a blackberry.
Is anybody out there who could give me advice on this matter?
Thanks in advance,
Gabriele
Hi Gabriele,
This sounds really weird. I have an account with Standard Chartered and DBS and use internet banking all the time. So far so good, no problem. Just sometimes there is a delay to get the OTP number (the numbers they send via SMS if you do a transaction online). Maybe try to talk to the head of personal banking of the branch and find out if this is really the new 'policy' - and if it is the case, I would say, just change the bank. There are so many banks here - so I am sure you'll find a more suitable one.
Gabrielle, we bank with Danamon Bank and have been very happy with them. I usually do internet banking from my laptop, not my phone and have no trouble. I like the fact that I can pay utilities from my desk. If you change banks make sure to go with one that will allow that.

Maybe the over-the-counter advice you were getting was poor quality. The Permata web site says (courtesy Google translate)
I think the token they refer to is similar to the 3 show in the photo - of these the balck is fo Commonwealth Australia, the grey is Commonwealth Indonesia, and the Blue is BCA Indonesia.PermataNet

It may also be that their systems uses your mobile phone to receive a code. That is quite common these days.

I'm having the same problem with Permata. I've used their internet service for 3 years without hassle but they are now switching over to a new system and it's a real nightmare to register, especially from abroad -I'm in East Timor-. I try registering last time I was in Bali but wasted a lot of time for 0 results. I've complained to my account manager and am still waiting for a solution. I would recommend you do the same, the more complains the more likely they'll take steps to fix this pb.
Hi all,
thanks for all advice given. I had an appointment with my account manager last week but it seems there is no real solution to this problem. I was told that I have to have a smartphone with internet access which I simply dont want. I need my mobile phone only for calls and I definitely will not buy a new one only because of Permata Bank !
So I am now trying to set up an account with mandiri on monday. Hopefully this will work out.
Best regards,
Gabriele
Yes u need a smartphone, however I have been advised that tokens (like the ones in the picture above) will be phased in shortly... Also the smart phone is only to enter a code when you login or complete a transaction, not unlike the old TIN method on the permata internet banking site....
