    Default Teaching salaries

    Howdy all :D ,

I've been lucky enough to score an interview at a school in Denpasar next month and I'm just wondering what kind of salaries teachers are paid. This isn't an International School, I understand they pay more.

Also if anyone has any tips for the interview that would be great.
    Thanks

It depends on what type of school you're talking about. If it's teaching English, you won't get paid much. A national plus school will pay somewhat more. Small international schools in Indonesia pay somewhere in the high twenties to mid- thirties to start. You should check out teacher forums to get more accurate information.

    Hi shell_e

    Welcome to the forum.

What type of school is it and what do you teach? This is a forum for sharing personal experiences about Bali so please tell us how your interview goes.

    Good luck!

    Thanks Bruce & Alan,

I think the schools (I have a second interview organised) are just local schools in Denpasar, they're not one of the international schools.

    I will be teaching English.

Bruce I've had a look at some teaching forums but I haven't really been able to find out much information relating to salaries, apart from comments saying how under paid they are.

When you say high twenties etc what do you mean? Sorry if this is a dumb question :)

    Thanks

    Shell_e,

Sorry about that. I meant in US dollars. If you teach in an Indonesian school, even national plus ones, you'll be paid in rupiahs. I've never worked in a national plus school or an English teaching institute, but I've seen some salaries and they vary widely, and the benefits vary widely as well. Look for a housing allowance (many schools will provide housing but in less than desirable places), flight back home, health insurance, number of paid holidays, extra duties that you will be expected to take on, etc. Make sure they provide a work visa (many places try to get by on that and that makes you accountable if you get nabbed by immigration). An average salary at a good English language school is around 11-12 million rupiah a month (from what I hear). Good luck with your interview.

    Thanks Bruce,

    Now it makes sense, lol.

I will let you know how I go with the interviews. My first one is on Wed 9th May. It's definitely the longest I've ever travelled for an interview, Melb to Bali, so fingers crossed.

    Thanks again

Default RE: Teaching salaries - interview attire

    Hi all,

Regarding to what to wear for my interviews. Do you think its ok for me to wear what I normally wear to work (I work in an office), skirt and shirt etc. Or should I aim to cover up more than usual?

Can't say I've ever seen a teacher in Bali so I'm not sure what the standard is.

    Any advice would be great.

Also I might bounce salary/contract ideas off you, if I'm successful, if that's ok.

    Thanks
    Shell

I would imagine any interview you would want to dress professional... of course in High school, I always imagined my teacher in a bikini- 8) ----- a dress thats down to the knees would suffice, no high heels, leopard skins-- you canpost a pic and we can all judge??? good luck....

    Hey Shell,

Office wear for the interview would be ok. You want to be a bit overdressed for the interview. When I was the principal in a school in the jungle, I had a lady show up for an interview dressed to the nines - far more than what we normally wore for teaching - but I appreciated the effort and the awareness that she was in a formal situation.
