What if i just want to go to KITAP Gil?

Zoyra was told you need a Spouse sponsored Kitas before getting one, and seeing as though you're not legally allowed to work on a Spouse Kitas you'd be jobless/unpaid for 2 years. That doesn't sound right though, surely you would be allowed to convert a normal working Kitas to a Kitap.

You might want to look at getting a Spouse Visa now mate, unless you want to wait two years when you finally do move over

    Hi all,

I really don't want to cause a confusion. I am not an expert on this.

So, here's an update (if this is the right information or not, I really don't know). I called up the visa agent we used last year for the kitas (sponsored by spouse) application.

I was informed that if one is legally married with an indonesian spouse for more than 2 years and residing in Indonesia (meaning holding a sponsored by spouse kitas) for at least 2 full years - then this person is entitled to apply for a KITAB.

However, it is a totally different isssue, if you are married to an indonesian spouse, but your kitas is sponsored by a company (working kitas).

The duration for the processing of KITAB is about 4 months. Meaning, your passport will be taken away from you for that duration and you will not be able to leave the country.

So, for us - the above is not an option at this moment due to travel plans in future. At present, no other choice except renewing the present Kitas. The price for renewal is 6 million (almost the same as for the first one).

There is really a very detailed step by step on Kitab written by Atlantis on the living in indonesia forum. Not sure if I can post the link here, but whoever is interested will sure able to find it - and he's really an expert.

    Hope this helps.

Yes, they are charging me 6 million for extension. So, unless I find a less expensive one (but reliable) I think we will go ahead with this agent. It will take almost 4 weeks until all is done (then there is the national public holiday and hari raya). If you have a recommendation, let me know. Thanks.

Sorry Zoyra, can't say I know anyone, my wife and I deal with immigration ourselves and pay whats on the board, My Kitas cost me around 1.1mill all up. I've heard the extension is even cheaper and easier to get.

if you hold a working kitas for two years in a row with the same employer, you could apply for a KITAP with workpermit. Only thing is that if the company you work for goes bust, so does your kitap. you can't change fro"forced to be un-employed" for two years...

@goldminer, you can't go straight for a KITAP, first get the KITAS sponsored by wife and before you can get that, you get the sosbud sponsored by wife. In the period of 6months of this sosbud start the application for getting the KITAS...after 6 months you don't have to leave the country to pick up your kitas abroad, ofcourse you can but you would have to let them (imigrasi) know where abroad you want to pick it up.
btw, haven't had time yet to check out that school, sorry mate..but will do so ASAP.

about prices..."no hassles" price for the spouse kitas, "no hassle" meaning just bring your passport and wife's KTP and weddingcertificate,
5jt for local pick up...3jt for abroad pickup. maybe expensive (?), but no hassles like sending in letters yourself going to get signatures from there bring that back, etcetc...
don't read between the lines..i think the words are clear enough...:)
