That's why I don't think an Indonesian needs to apply visa if Germany was their only destination and for that matter, a Schengen visa would be redundant, thus of us not thinking of ever going to a German Embassy for it.
    Hi Milan,

Apa kabar? It is good to have another Indonesian in the forum.

A visa is required for Indonesian to visit Germany - either the Schengen visa or the long term Resident Permit visa (for study or living there). The Schengen visa allows a stay of up to 90 days (although the visa will be granted for the duration of your stay only). You only have to apply for the Schengen visa from the Consulate of the country where you will be spending the most time in. So if you have a Schengen visa for Germany, then you can also travel to Italy, Austria and other countries in the Schengen Agreement with this visa without any troubles.

So I don't know if there was a free visa agreement before between Indonesia and Germany, but it is not the case anymore. :(

For visas for Australia, I guess I have been pretty lucky I haven't had so much troubles although it was not easy! I applied for my PR visa through family sponsored skilled migration and it took 6 months.

Anyway, each person has his/her own experience with visa applications. For me it is always best to consult with the Embassy or the Consulate of the country for information, otherwise I get all confused.

Gosh Jimbo - in Indonesia where everything is flexible I would think other peoples experiences are more important than the official line.

Not in my experience sweet dreams but you pays your money and takes your choice. It is too late once you are facing an immigration officer who will not let you in or an airline desk clerk that turns you away.

A lot of what folks write is also hearsay, in addition different embassies give different advice but as I said its up to you. I have seen people come in here and ask answers to complex legal questions which some think the can answer.

Thank you all so much for your replies!!

And in fact I had been waiting and looking on the wrong page and had been suprised no one had posted anything... lol...

I am pleased at all of the information I find on the blog. I know the consulate is the best place to ask for answers... But they are not willing to give anything more than "section 179" not pleasing the officer, and that is all.

My "friend" is persistant on traveling to Jakarta becuase he gets an answer in 3-4 days as apposed to 3-6 weeks. But it has cost to much and the next one is via mail for sure.

And yes he is more than my friend and there has been talk about the possibility of getting married. I am going to marry him either way I am sure of that, it has just presented itself a little earlier than I would have predicted. I have been looking and talking to many people about all sorts of solutions, and I know it comes down to the individual and not all solutions or experiences are for everyone. It sure is nice to hear other perspectives.

I guess I am just hoping someone who has experienced this before will share how they succeeded and won over immigration with their solution, and It will click as the right one we should apply with.

I was as well worried about him being muslim and him getting discriminated but I truly do not want to beleive that...

Thank you for all your input... We will keep on trucking... :|

Anshu, you sound a little more optimistic this time and even happy! (the upcoming marriage). That's great and thanks for the update.

    Hi Kadek,
Terima kasih. Senang sekali baca post2nya apalagi mengenai Bali yang begitu penuh keterangan2 yang saya tidak mengetahuinya sebelumnya.
(Thanks. I enjoy seeing your posts especially those about Bali as they're filled with infos that I had not known).

And as for no-visa for Indonesians, I did write that it was in 1990's, because after the European Communion was formed, I never went to Germany except as a stopover in Frankfurt where they did not stamp on my passport at all at the Immigration check-point. Thus for my understanding that between Germany and Indonesia, the application of no-visa entry still stands.

Good to know that you've got your PR in Australia accordingly. Tell us more about how life is in Australia for an Indonesian. It's nice to know as I've never been.
Yes, my niece is still on working permit in Singapore; yet, her line of job is one the sought-after in Singapore due to its shift now from attracting the trade/business people as it has always been to more of an art city of Asia. Her designs have won her a Silver Award for the city. Yet...no PR. Her colleagues from Europe, America, almost all have already got it and are even able to buy their own places already. Thus for her and my conclusion on "Indonesian passport" syndrome... :?

Mimpimanis, yup!...the flixibility IS the modus-operandi in Indonesia. You sure got it, my friend!

Indeed, there are some disadvantages of holding an Indonesian passport. We have to apply for a visa to visit most countries and in doing so we are subjected to a much stricter security check. Normally, applying a German Schengen visa would require max 5 working days, but for Indonesians it is double the time to 10 working days!! I guess, this is relatively short??

The same with Australia, I had applied several types of visa for my stay here - from Student Visa, Temporary Visa and PR Visa. In all cases I was classified at the higher security risk level compared to potential immigrants coming from EU countries, USA or GB. It is specified what security level each country is grouped into in the visa application guidelines.

But they are all processes and as long as we abide by the rules and regulations and supply all the necessary requirements and documentation, chances are you will be granted the visa.

It would have been good to have the option to have double citizenships. But as everybody know, it is not possible under Indonesian law. But with PR visa, I can do almost everything (except vote) in Australia and some restrictions on working for federal and state govement agencies. After the two years 'probation' period, I am eligible for social security benefits, can own a property (which I do), even study as a domestic student instead of International student (a lot cheaper!!), thank God - otherwise it would cost a fortune to do my current study. Anyway, I am not helping the original poster about her question here.

    Cheers

    Anshu...

Nice to hear you're getting something useful from this forum.
...I know the consulate is the best place to ask for answers...
Not always, but what else can one do?

Nobody on this forum can give you an instant solution. Every country has its own rules and regulations.

It's not just holders of an Indonesian passport. Most people have to do this no matter where they come from. For example...I'm sure I can't just jump on a plane and arrive in the USA without a visa, even with an Australian passport.

For those who don't already know - Australia has some of the strictest immigration policies around. I don't know about Canada.

I wish you both the very best of luck, both in getting into Canada and your future life together, wherever that takes you both.

    Didn't say it.

Nevertheless, entry to America by Italians, they have to already have what they call here, an electronic passport. Not the conventional one any longer.

    I said this.

What I meant to say is that there seems to be much more restrictions placed on Indonesian passport. Of course a visa is required in the majority of cases by the majority of people when traveling abroad.

However, just as an example, Australian citizen can indeed travel to the USA and Canada without a visa for business trip and tourism if the stay is for less than 90 days under the Visa Waiver Program http://canberra.usembassy.gov/consular/visawaiver.html

Australians can also travel without requiring a visa to Germany and other countries in the Schengen Agreement. Australian citizens can also then apply for the Long Term Resident Permit visa from inside Germany instead of from outside the country as is the case for Indonesians.

Anyway, this information is not relevant to Anshu. I hope you can sort out a visa for your boyfriend Anshu. Hopefully after you two are married, things might get a bit easier.

I hope you will also find a solution that are comfortable for you with regards to religion.

    Best Wishes
