RE retirement visa, how do you go about retiring in Bali at age 55 if you can't get an aussie pension until you are 67? I did read you had to have $20 000 per year in your bank acount to show you can support yourself is this correct?
Private pensions?
And I guess its not just for Australians ;o)

There is a whole section including links in the archives here on the retirement visa and the rules for obtaining one. I think that 55 is the minimum age for the visa (If you have the money)
The rules stated $15,000 per year US plus you need to show you have rented or leased a house and will employ a maid plus you have suitable medical insurance.
Cannot help with the pension the OZ goverment give but I do not think the rules were made for basic pensioners but for those who could afford to retire and bring their income to Bali for the sake of the Balinese economy.

Thanks Jimbo, I just wondered if you are 55 then and have the required $15000 per year in your bank how do they work out how many years you gonna live there or be alive etc or is there a minumum you have to have like eg: $15000 for 5 years $75000 ? Or is a social visa the way to go renewing it every 6 months?
The retirement visa is initially for 1 year and then can be extended yearly to 5 years without leaving the country. Age 55 is OK. To find out what financial information will be sufficient in your case, follow the VISA Indonesia button at the top roight of this page, and ask Bali IDE.

It is not 15,000 in the bank but an income of 15,000 per year. How they check I do not know but thems the rules. Best see for yourself and do a search.

Thanks for all the answers. Unsure what you mean by your replys Mimpimanis?. I am thinking maybe buying a business and working theire on that visa might by easier than waiting 13 years to go there on a retirement visa seems to hard with all the rules and regulations.
If you are 55 and want have a retirement visa you should find a special agent for that, paying abt. 8 to 12 million Rp and get the visa for one year first without any other requiremets.
These are included in the "price".
