Hi there everyone,
I am new to this forum, have just had a quick read through of past postings but couldn't seem to find what I was looking for.
I have an Indonesian boyfriend that I want to bring to Australia for a holiday. What do we need to do? And where do we apply here in Australia or in Bali? And how long does it take to be approved?
I will be back in Bali in Sept.for 2 weeks and really wanted Dewa to return to Australia with me at the end of my trip. Mainly so that he doesn't have to travel by himself but also as I can't bear to be parted from him any longer.
We will then return to Bali together at the end of his trip. I am hoping that he can get a visa for at least 2 possibly 3 months.
Then I am planning to move to Bali for 6 months early next year.
Thanks for any help.
Hi and welcome to the forum :)
You need to call DIMA in Australia and discuss the various options. I believe you put the application into the Australian consulate in Bali, and your boyfriend of course will need a passport etc.
I will send you a pm with some more information
Freo
thank you for that Freo
Eagerly await your pm

Greetings, mydewa
Don't know why you couldn't find the information you want on this forum. The question has been addressed many times in the past....I have an Indonesian boyfriend that I want to bring to Australia for a holiday. What do we need to do? And where do we apply here in Australia or in Bali? And how long does it take to be approved?...
(1) Your boyfriend will need an Indonesian passport, for starters (obvious)
(2) You will need to provide him with a letter of invitation to stay with you
(3) You will probably need to provide some evidence that you have enough money in your Australian bank account(s) to sponsor him, including medical expenses, (if any), etc
(4) Don't write anything about potential romantic attachments in the form he submits, unless you're serious and want more aggravation
(5) Try to ensure that your friend has enough reasons for returning to Bali after his Australian visit (important)
(6) Tourist visas for Australia are supposed to be applied for at the Australian Consulate's shopfront in Jalan Raya Puputan, Renon, not the actual Consulate itself (in Jalan Tantular). Costs a bit more there...look/search for previous posts regarding this.
(7) If all the paperwork is in order, it takes maybe 2 or 3 days
One last thing. I just posted a message on this forum to anusha, a Canadian national trying to get a visa for her friend.
I gather that FreoGirl has some information for you, too, via a PM (Personal Message).
I hope this helps and best of luck to both of you.
:D
hi mydewa, have been through this on several occasins, until being married to my wife in jakarta. The biggest problem is always to prove that your boyfriend will return after his visit. The advise from Sanurian is spot on...good luck
Thanks Goldminer and Sanurian,
I am going to Bali in June and we will check with the Aust.Consulate. Apply for his passport and get the ball rolling.
The only problem is that I would like Dewa to be able to fly back to Australia with me In Sept.so hopefully we can get the visa organised for then. If not he will just have to come over by himself.
I am then going to be coming back to Bali at the end of his trip so they will see that I have a ticket as well and that he is planning on returning to Bali.

hi again, they generaly like it if he has travelled overseas before and is employed in bali so he has reason to return, hope all goes well
Dependent upon where your "friend" is actually from, (eg, is he Balinese?), he should be able to get an Indonesian passport within a week, or less. A visa for Australia could take 2-3 days, if everything is in order, paper-wise.
That's it. If you're coming here in June for a few weeks, that should be more than enough time to do everything. I'm not sure if you'll be able to organise adjacent seats on the plane back to Australia. But I presume he's a big boy now and if he has to fly solo to another country, that'll be a good learning experience for him, if nothing else.
