I was over in Sumba surfing recently & someone mentioned to me there that there are new laws for foreign males married to indonesian wives. Apparently they only have to do a "visa run" for 5 years and then they qualify as a resident and no longer have to fly out to renew the visa. Can anyone shed more light on this?
On this page

you will find much information about visas for spouses.
This information is wrong.Originally Posted by Renzo
- A legally married foreign husband of an Indonesian can be sponsored by his wife for a temporary residency permi (the so called KITAS). This residency permit is valid for one year.
- After a minimum of two uninterrupted full years on a temporary residency permit sponsored by his indonesian wife, the foreign can apply for the conversion of his temporary resident permit (KITAS) in a permanent resident permit (KITAP), which is valid for 5 years.
- After a minimum of five uninterrupted full years on a residency permit (KITAS or KITAP) or ten years of discontinued residency permits a foreign husband of an indonesian wife can request to be granted the indonesian citizenship. If refused, he will be granted automatically a KITAP.
For more informations on visas and residency permit, I believe that the website proposed by Ronb will offer you a fair deal of informations.

By the way and for your information, it ain't a new marriage law that granted these rights to mixed couples. The marriage law dates from 1974 and has not been amended nor replaced... Unfortunately. Anyway it does not govern immigration regulations.
On my above post:
Point 1 finds its source in the Citizenship law number 12/2006 and the Regulation of the minister of Justice and Human rights number M.01-IZ.01.10 year 2007
Point 2 finds its source in the Governmental Regulation number 38/2005 modifying the Governmental Regulation number 32/1994
Point 3 finds its source in the Citizenship law number 12/2006
