spoon it will depend on who is watching, If you are starting a PMA company you will be a director & can have a office there, but you cannot pick up a welder & start welding. A PMA company can apply for a work permit for you but you need a special skill. The big problem here is the overheads, the cost of company, work permit, rent, visa, soon adds up & you price yourself out of the market.

    Thanks for your reply Fred.

So how does one retire in Bali for 6 months of the year, keep an interest in business, take a few months holidays on crusies and see family for the other three months in Australia?

    Thanks
    Steve

    Hi spoon,
If you have income from a pension or a business-interest abroad, then don't do business here, since it won't add any substantial income..and for sure it ain't going to be enough to pay for cruises etcetc...

For 6 months a year, just come on a sosbud visa and relax, enjoy being retired whilest a good general manager or a businesspartner takes care of whatever business you're in abroad.
    just imho
don't read between the lines..i think the words are clear enough...:)

    Cool

I'm with gilbert, get a sosbud visa, that will get you six months stay in Bali. This will give you time to look around, find a place to stay, check out retirement visa or set up a company. Take your time or you will lose your dream real fast, there is lots of ways to make money here & lots of ways to lose it.

Sounds good but retirement = death so that won't happen.

I have a great need to talk to folks and I guess that is why I am in business.

Not looking for any substancial income rather an interest to keep me occupied and keep my head funcitonal.

I am starting to think along the lines of a business partner in Bali that I have known for 20 years. What sort of business setup would you recommend for a local runnning a trailer business where I own some of it.

Business at home is a family business and will be run by family.

    Thanks
    Steve

    hahaha..retirement is death..good one,
I am 36 and have been 'retired' for 4 years now, still living ,
and to be honest I am busier here, then that I was back home running my businesses.
I can understand your 'fear' of sitting around doing nothing will make you old (dead) fast,
but trust me, once you are here you will make friends fast (just a feeling from your posts)...
both expat-friends and Balinese friends, you won't get bored.
    That being said...

If you want to do business here with an Balinese business partner, still the PMA would be the way to go (imho), best is to talk to some consultants who can give you advice in what options you have that are most suitable for your goal.
here's a link to some info about setting up a PMA business...maybe it makes things a bit clearer about the process, but I think after reading it you will decide to use an agent for this set-up...
