Hello all!
I am so confused and getting all different answers all over the place... I am getting married in Bali in 2 weeks!! There are many documents we have arranged for my fiance who is Indonesian
But we are confused what documents I need to prepare as a Canadian???? :?:
I call the emabassy they tell me to call consulate in Canada I call the consulate they tell me to call city hall, I call City Hall they tell me to call the embassy......
Has anyone had a muslim ceramony in Bali who can tell me EXACTLY what documents I need... I have 2 weeks to prepare  I would have done earlier if we got straight answers in the beginning...
Also we have called the KUA in Bali and they tell us 10 days for processing documents???
What if a foreigner got married in Bali and could not get the documents from home country there must be some options????
Please Please Please anyone know????
thank you!
Hello Anshu
There are several companies in Bali who organise weddings, at this late stage it might be worthwhile contacting them and coming to some arrangement where you pay them to organise all the legalities for you. Not sure if I can list them here but a google of bali weddings should get you some results. I believe the 10 days is correct and you need a certificate of no impediment, the wedding companies know exactly what is required and also about ensuring it is a legal wedding. Will cost you a bit more than doing it all yourself but you don't really have much time to play with.
Hello Ashnu,
We were married in Bali , both converted to Hindhu and used Bali Jepun wedding.

They did a wonderful job and organised EVERYTHING.
sincerely, Chilli
Well if we are suggesting wedding cmpanies my best freind here is a wedding planner. As toucan said if you use one it will cost you but considering your timeframe you may be best off.

Oh and I was married in Lombok not Bali and I needed
1) Birth cert
2)Decree absolute (as I was divorced)
3) Letter of permission from my father!!!!
Somehow I got away without the certificate of no impediment but generally it is needed and you get it from your embassy here I think.

Mimpi, letter of permission from your father ??? what happens if he isnt alive anymore.?
this is funny/hillarious..
I had to have the letter of no impediment, i cannot recall now what i had to obtain from Australia and what came from the Australian embassy in Bali.
But my wedding people did organise that all for me. I am not sure if 10 days is going to be enough time but one can only ask.
Yes, i didnt intend to promote any company, only reply to an urgent request. I didnt personally know anyone there.
wish you all a wonderful saturday. Chilli
I know Chilli and its not like I was a teenager needing permission. Actually I had only that year started talking to my dad after a 10 year rift but if we still hadnt have been anyone could have written the letter, its not like they checked it!

Anshu...don't panic too much.
You're getting married in Indonesia and nearly everything is "negotiable". Try not to get bogged down in "official requirements".
"EXACTLY" is a very fluid term here....Has anyone had a muslim ceramony in Bali who can tell me EXACTLY what documents I need...
mimpimanis, from her personal experience, says she needed the following:
I believe the really critical, legal bit is an official copy of a statement that the foreigner who wants to marry here isn't still married in their own country. In other words, free to get married without prior impediments.1) Birth cert
2) Decree absolute (as I was divorced)
3) Letter of permission from my father!!!!
I don't know about Canada, but in Australia, that would mean a piece of paper from the bureau of births, deaths and marriages, or the Family Law Court. Something like that. Consulates/Embassies don't or won't help you with this. It's not part of their job description.
I'll give you a practical example from my own experience. I married my Indonesian muslim wife in Central Java many years ago. I was already divorced from my previous wife and had the official paper from Australia that said so. I didn't have to produce my "birth certificate" as such, as I explained that in order to get a passport in the first place, I'd already done that. Then there was the "Letter of Permission". My wife's father was too sick to travel at the time, had already given his "blessing" via a signed statement. So, what else was there to do? Appoint a "proxy father". Easy to do.
You buy a living new one or, "legally", simply appoint a proxy....letter of permission from your father ??? what happens if he isnt alive anymore.?...
The "official" time frames to do anything can be modified as much as one wants or needs to, (within reason). If you strike an "official" who's going by the non-existent book, you just need to be more adamant/creative (and maybe pay a little bit more).
I know this because we did it. Both my wife's and my own Indonesian marriage papers are "in order", with respect to countries like Australia. We went there last December and neither of us got arrested. There were no problems.
:D
I think in these situations, i.e.overseas marriages, buying properties etc, its a releif to just employ a proffessional and avoid the last minuite hiccups and stress !
Sanurian, did you have to then lodge paperwork in Oz to register your marriage ? Or is your marriage internationally recognised ? I have never actually checked in Australia to see if my marriage is registered here also (but then nor do i really care) . :|
kind regards to all , Chilli
No, but can if we want or need to....did you have to then lodge paperwork in Oz to register your marriage ?...
Yes, but I'm not sure about Iran and Myanmar......is your marriage internationally recognised ?...
:D
