Thread: 60 Day Tourist Visa In Sydney

Hey Guys,

Im going to apply for a 60 Day "Tourist Visa" tomorrow in Sydney. Yes, its not called a 'social visa' on the application form, its called a 'tourist visa'.

Im wondering if I need a sponsorship letter for this tourist visa?

On the website it says for what is needed when applying for visa: Letter of recommendation from a sponsor in Indonesia ( if necessary by Immigration in Consulate General of Republic of Indonesia in Sydney ).


I wonder what it means by "if necessary"?


I wont be able to get a sponsorship letter by tomorrow... but Im going to give proof of a plane ticket out of bali.

Im planning to extend the 60 day visa (if i get it) a couple of times while Im over there in Bali.

I don't think you need a sponsorship letter for this visa. You don't need one when you extend your VOA so I don't see why they would ask for one for this visa regardless of what it says on the website.

A sixty day tourist visa is simple for sixty days thats it!!!!!!!

Not for a sixty day tourist visa!!!!!!

A copy of the sponsor's legitimate and valid Indonesian ID card and/or passport (for individual sponsor).
A single entry Social-Cultural Visa will be issued for up to 6 (six) months. A visa fee of A$ 60.00 is required and made payable only in a form of money order or company cheque to the Indonesian Embassy. Cash, personal cheque, or credit card payments will not be accepted.

Only if you are applying for a Social-cultural Visa not a tourist visa

You need proof of a ticket for both visa's

You cannot extend a tourist visa only a sobud visa, thats why you need a sponsor for a sobud to extend it.

I hope that clears up any problems people have when applying for either of these two different visa's

When you apply at any consulate you only get one form, but there is two section on it, never noticed tourist visa on it.
Top part ask: for visa purpose
you fill this part out for tourist visa, the same questions that are asked on your inbound card when your on the plane.

Second part ask: for limited stay purpose
You fill this part out for sobud & you need a sponsor letter.


I did try to have a Tourist visa extended some years ago, but the big boss said no. Maybe if I pushed they may have taken a small brown bag full of folding stuff, when I was told of what could happen, I took a quick trip to Singapore. I was surprised at how many cells they have at Immigration for visa infringements, one cell had illegal workers that had to pay for there over stay, food & cell time & they had to pay for there tickets out of Indonesia. You hear of so many stories were people have Known someone at Immigration, but its easy to do the right thing & not look over your shoulder all the time.
At Immigration I was told that a quick look at your passport, to see if you have enter another country then returned to Indonesia. Everything is ok till shit hits the fan!! I plan to stay for a long time

Gee I really hope thats not right fred. I followed the directions my university gave which was ignore that limited stay section (and I searched on the consulate site as well), and fill in the tourist stay section and then on page 2 fill in the sponsorship section to get the social aspect of the visa. Now you have me bloody nervous - living in a place with no post office and sending a new form will be a nightmare. Fingers crossed

If you have sent money & sponsor letter you will get your visa.

Yup money order, KTP card copy, letter, passport and form all sent last week when I got to escape for a few days for a work trip. Phew, had me a bit worried there. Now I just have to pray they don't make the 2-4th November a random indonesian holiday so I can pick it all up while I transit Darwin.

I live in a Indigenous community called Kaltukatjara (whitefella name is Docker River). We are in the bottom corner of the NT, about 7kms to WA and 20kms to SA borders. Way out bush! Its a small place with a transient population of 200-400, and less than 20 whitefellas that work for various agencies providing services. Nearest civilisation is at Ayers Rock resort 250kms down a crappy dirt road, and Alice is our closest real town at 750kms by road. Lovely place - in the middle of old ranges but rather remote. Been out here a bit over 2 years now - soooo looking forward to trading the desert for the tropics (and being legally allowed to have a beer) :D

Wow, after distances like that you may feel a "smallness" in Bali where it is only 150KM from the west most point (north of Gilimanuk) to the east most point (east from Tirta Gangga) - and about 85 KM in the north-south direction.

I didn't realise the west was so close - it's on the must do list at some point in the next year. What Bali lacks in distance, it sure makes up for in travel time though!! Every time I come visit the initial culture shock of just soooo many people and vehicles is stunning for me (part of why I prefer to go hang out on nusa lembongan).
