In may Dewa and I applied for a tourist visa for him to visit Aust. He was denied as they said he didn't show sufficient reasons for him to return to Indonesia.

He has a job,worked there for 10 years and had a letter from his boss stating this,but he did not have a bank acc. or any property. So consulate said "they did not believe he had bona fida job and as he was single with no ties and property and had nevwer travelled before they were denying his application for a visa"

Anyway we are going to reapply while i am there in Aug and we are wondering how we can improve his chances for aproval. I did ring the consulate in Jakarta to ask what they would accept as proof of incentive to return to Indonesia and they replied"that is up to him to prove"

I don't understand what they are looking for. I had plenty of funds for his stay I was also going to return to Bali with dewa and I supplied copies of my ticket to show this but they said it wasn't upto me to prove he would return it was upto Dewa. So if he has ajob, but they don't believe that what else would be considered proof. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

In addition to his letter from his employer, also get references or letters from others in his community. e.g. long term customers or collegues he works with, letter from his banjar about his involvement with temple and the banjar, if he has any important ceremonies coming up (cremations etc) reference to those - essentially anything you can think of to prove he has a life in Bali that he wants to return to.
They really do make it hard, don't they..

I will let Dewa know what you have said and he can get that all organised and hopefully this time he will get it.

They really do make it hard for Indonesians to come to Australia. I don't know why Aust.seems to think everyone wants to live here. Dewa and I surely don't, we want to live in Bali but at the moment it is just not practical for me to move there. Here's hoping that one day it will happen.

Have just returned from Bali on Thursday and got my lady friend ( I will call her girlfriend later when sure ) her passport and she is going in Monday to apply for an under 3 month tourist visa to Australia.
We have a friend of a friend who works at Immigrasi in Denpasar who seems to sideline as a visa getter so will post on the forum if it is successful. The price he wants above the 1,060,000rp visa application to the Australia consulate seems reasonable and I left all the appropriate sponser letters/bank statements/passport copy/personal details with her to give to him.
So we will will see......

A tourist visa subclass 676 costs AUD100 if applied for outside the country, so was wondering what is the rest of the fee for? Is or that his commission on top of the fee?

Freogirl , the price taken straight from the Australia consulate in Denpasar and avaliable from the the visa office as an official get from the counter document is 910,000rp for the application plus 150,000rp administration ( probably read commission ) fee which is non refundable if application is rejected. My friend of a friend wants 650,000rp to basically guarantee it will go through first time ( but we will see ) .
I spent 2 weeks in Bali just recently and many trips to the indonesian consulate and Australian consulate( visa office around the corner) to get the paperwork.
And this was supposed to be a holiday

I love Bali and Indonesia but boy it can be frustrating only arranging one thing a day to then be told " come back tomorrow". Ahh well, Jaram Karat....

Sorry freogirl, forgot to add ( but is probably obvious) , we were applying inside Indonesia due to the drama involved with my friend sending information required that I could understand. Yes, her knowledge of English is limited but I have the rest of my life to come to terms with that
But she beats me because she thinks she is dumb but I can only speak English and she can speak Javanese, Balinese and basic English.
Who is the dumb one???

My partner came over in November last year for three months. First trip outside Indonesia and no permanent job to go back to. It only took 4 days to approve.

Firstly I was told by Immigration in Australia that it would help if he had $1000 per month of visa in a bank account in his name. Does not matter that I put it in. Also an itinerary for the duration of the stay. Make it up e.g. a couple of weeks to get use to Australia, trips to visit family, trips to other parts of Australia, Parties etc. With the other information you have there would be no reason why the visa is not approved.

I told the truth that he was coming to meet my family as we were in a relationship and I wanted to see if he liked Australia. I put it all in a State Dec to make it more official.

I had a detailed sponsor letter stating that Dewa would be joing our family on a trip up the East coast of Australia, from Newcastle to Gold Coast.I had more than sufficient funds to cover his stay and also the copy of my return to Bali itinerary. All to no avail.

What I found interesting was that on speaking to the consulate they told me that he could reapply the next day if he wanted to. When I pointed out that none of his circumstances had changed so why would it be approved he answered it depends who does the application.So how fair is that obviously if consular staff are having a bad day or have approved so many visa'a they just say "ok next one is denied" real fair system. I think it is all about the money.

But we will try and try again until he gets it approved.

Pity there is nobody you can complain to and yes it is unfair totally unfair. My partners visa application had to go to Jakarta as he is not Balinese and non Balinese visas are processed in Bali.

We are in the process of applying for the proposed spouse visa and they all have to go to Jakarta. Maybe they have a allocation of visa allowed to be approved for certain times, who knows and there is no means of appeal. If they refuse it again I would ask my local federal member to look into it.

I have been told about a New Zeland man living in Australia trying to bring his wife here from the Phillipines and after 14 months he asked the local federal MP to look into it. He was told because he is a New Zealander that it is a the bottom of the pile. The MP suggested he became an Australian citizen to speed up the process... and yes it worked.

I think the people whose job it is to make the decision if people are allowed to have a visa to Australia are held accountable for their decision.

Having been through both a tourist visa and tempory spouse visa at aussie embassy in jakarta ( my wife is javanese btw) my advice is to follow the forms to the letter and take lots of pics of you together.. the want evidence of your relationship, pics with the date on them of course. We are at the stage where all the paperwork is finalise by the case manager and she says it has been handed over to the Australian embassy officer for confirmation. Do you know if that means it just needs the sign off of the australain officer.

Do you remember how long you had to wait after all the paperwork was completed. Two people I have spoken to said 3-4 weeks. I just want to hound them but I know I have to be patient.

hi impanema, i take it you are going for the temporary spouse/proposed spouse visa. We didnt use an agent, simply filled in all the paper work and followed it to the letter. We found all the different things they needed and handed it in and payed the fee about 10 million i think, and just waited, about 3 weeks later my wife( we were married in jkt a week before applying) had to do medical checks etc and an interview. A month later they wanted more evidence of our relationship, even we married. Hence i am saying get pics of you both together, we had lots of each other but very few together if u know what i mean. All up it took 3 months to the day for final approval. We considered this a great result . I did find out my case officers ( australian official in jkt embassy) and rang her just before getting approval and told her my wife was ready to move to perth. Maybe this helped, i dont know. Hope this is of some help..
