Even if the law says that you should have a ticket, if a Pejabat ask you if you have a formal ticket, it is just an indication that he is after some kind of "uang suap". They are trained to read passport not tickets. Just give a smile, provide him a print of your booking and that should do it. It is merely a question of attitude. If the pejabat feels that you are confident while handing the document, chances are high that he won't investigate to check if it is an actual booking ticket or a confirmed ticket. Especially now, with e-tickets, they get to see thousands of different forms for genuine tickets.
But once again, it happened only very few times that I get asked to show my ticket.
