In your particular case, I would advice you to go for a SosBud (Visa Kunjungan Sosial Budaya) which is valid for 60 days first and that can be legally extended up to 5 times. In fact this is theory. Practically the immigration will extend it only 4 times, allowing you to stay up to 180 days (6 months more or less).
This visa is to be applied abroad (any KBRI or KJRI), along with:
- a letter of invitation (letter of sponsor) of an Indonesian citizen or of a foreigner who is a legal resident in RI (ie a KITAS or KITAP holder),
- a photocopy of the KTP or passport of the sponsor
- a couple of pics
- a photocopy of a return ticket or an onward ticket
- the payment of the fee (set a the equivalent of USD 45 in local money)
These requirements are the legal one, as per Peraturan Pemerintah nomor 32 tahun 1994 (procedure) and Peraturan Pemerintah nomor 19 tahun 2007 (fees). Some embassies abroad sometimes request a couple more documents.
Extensions are easy to get in your particular case, since you are married to a WNI. You should not need the help of anyone. Be careful however, you need to apply in the same wilayah than your sponsor's wilayah of residence. If you intend to apply in Denpasar, make sure that your sponsor has a KTP indicating an adress in the same wilayah.
7 days after the end of the 60 days, your sponsor (ie your husbad, in your case) has to apply for the first extension. For this, your sponsor will have to ask for the requested forms (2 papers, one is the "surat jaminan" while the other one is the "surat pernyataan"). The surat jaminan has to be filled and signed by your sponsor on top of a "meterai rp6000".
Fee to be paid for the extension: IDR 250.000. Extension 1 is granted for 30 days.
You will have to renew this process every 30 days with a few exotic variations from time to time (extension 2, you will have to register to the POA, extension 3 and 4, you will have to bring a letter to the KanWil) but basically it is the same papers to be filled. Obviously, the fees are the same for extension 1,2,3 and 4 (apart at extension 2 where you need to supply a couple of pic and pay an extra IDR 15.000 to get your fingerprints taken).
Procedure for application of extensions of visas is described by the following text of law: Juklak F-309-IZ.01.10 tahun 1995. This is the operationnal decree which regulates the application, acceptation or refusal of visas and their extension. Having a good read at it would entitle anyone with fair command in bahasa to get procedures and rights fully respected. No comment.
Indonesianists interested by sharp informations on visa regulations may want to google the above quoted text. Alternatively,
http://www.expat.or.id (visas and documents pages) would provide any explanation in english you may want to know.
FYI, a sosbud could be legally extended a 5th time. The process is a bit longer since it requires the agreement of the DitJen Imigrasi in Jakarta. Anyway, after years of exposure to visas and immigration procedures, I have met only 5 person who got this 5th extension granted. It is pointless to ask unless if in you are in a case of
force majeur.
About the KITAS, since you don't plan to settle in Bali or wherever in Indonesia, I would not recommand it. Just for your formation, you don't choose to apply for a 6 months, 1 year or 2 year KITAS; Your situation determines the length of the KITAS that could be granted. In your case 6 months or 1 year KITAS could be attributed depending on the remaining length of validity of your passport at the time of issuance. Your situation (foreign spouse of a WNI) does not allow you the attribution of a 2 years KITAS.
You would be granted a 6 months KITAS with a 12 months remaining validity of passport.
You would be granted a 1 year KITAS with a 18 months remaining validity of passport.
PM me if more details are requested concerning your particular situation.
