Those who have a KITAS, how long does it normally take to process and how long are you usually without your passport for whileit is being processed?

Just wanting to check whether what we have been told is correct or if we are being messed around. We have been told we need to start processing the KITAS one month before it expires and will be without our passports for that full month.

I gave my passport up a month before expiry and got it back about a month later.

more or less 1 month.

It depends on lots of things.

What kind of KITAS? (For working or retirement?)
Using an agent or doing it yourself?

I was without my documents recently for more than two months. (Retirement KITAS renewal and Kantor Imigrasi in Denpasar.) You might be luckier.

Work Kitas. I would really like to know how to do it myself rather than using an agent but have no idea where to start. Are there any guidelines anywhere that show the documents needed and how to go about preparing KITAS on your own?

Getting a work KITAS is quite complicated. The guidelines you seek are "there", somewhere, but finding reliable ones is almost impossible. Talking with reputable agents, or legal people, would be the way to go. Save you a lot of time and hassle.

If you're brave enough to go solo, drop in to your nearest friendly Immigration Office and see what they tell you. Best of luck!

The article 58 of the Keputusan Menteri Kehakiman RI nomor M.02-IZ.01.10 tahun 1995 stipulates that you have to start the process at least 30 days before the end of your KITAS.

By the way... ALL the regulations are available online nowadays... the hardest part is more understanding it (ie: speaking the linguo) and teaching it to the one who are supposed to know it (ie: pejabat/petugas imigrasi)
