I do not want to discourage you in helping the needy, but there were numerous articles in the press and maybe also on this forum(i will have to check)about the majority of Balinese orphanages where the collected funds and goods do not or barely benefit the children but the family of the owner.Do a google search before committing to a place and keep critical.

    Added later:
I found this link.it is linking to an article of "Greenspeak",Ibu Kat from the Bali Advertiser:
The link i pasted is not working,so try this: http://www.baliadvertiser.biz/articl...orphanage.html
In the list of articles in the baliadvertiser it is not to be found any more,i wonder why?Too controversial?

Once more, for sure there are plenty of honest places, just do not leave your common sense at home.

While there is sure to be some truth in this, my own experience in meeting a number of foundations is that many of them are being run by well motivated people doing a very good job. So I would encourage anyone interested to get out and meet some and make your own assessment. And then of course, share it on the forum.

Early in the article they say that many of the kids are not really "orphans" and this is true. The word "orphanage" is used loosely, and "children's home" would often be a better description.
