Does anyone know where I can get a VHS cassette transferred onto DVD?
Preferably not in Denpasar as I get lost trying to get around the city

I can just imagine you finding your way around Denpasar in your new car. You need to get yourself a GPS system with Bali Maps :D :D :D

Jimbo me and a GPS - I cant see it.
I still havent set up the scanner that I have owned for 18 months

I think there is more to it than that - a freind tried to load the software for me once but we had a powercut half way through and she never finished. Freo was here a few days this week and offered to set it up for me (shes a bit of a techie) but I dont really need it so didnt bother. I discovered its easier just to photo somthing than scan it
Meanwhile, nobody knows where I can get my video transferred to DVD - a few years ago there seemed to be signs everywhere for this sort of thing but now I am looking I cant find one!
I also have a few vinyl LPs I would like to get onto CD if I can.

Hi mimpimanis,
My dear ol' Dad was using some software on his PC that he was using to convert old VHS tapes and movies to DVD. I'll check with him how he was doing it and get back to you.
Cheers,

We've kissed the "rat race" goodbye...but not quite made it to a home in Bali
Thanks Shaz but I doubt I would be able to do it myself - just read the above posts to see how technically inept I am. Also I no longer have a VHS player which I imagine I would need. With the humidity here I am sure the tape will be moldy too, so I am hoping for a professional job or cleaning it up and transferring.

Hi mimpimanis
There are still many that I see nearly every day, especially driving from Sanur to Denpasar. I don't know if any are any good, or how much they charge. If you haven't managed this yet, I can try and do it for you. Send me a PM if you're interested....Meanwhile, nobody knows where I can get my video transferred to DVD - a few years ago there seemed to be signs everywhere for this sort of thing but now I am looking I cant find one!...
The only "problem" with that is finding a turn-table. Have turn-table, can travel. The same with old VHS tapes, (need a VHS player)....I also have a few vinyl LPs I would like to get onto CD if I can...
After that, it's sort of plain sailing. As I said, I might be able to help you out.
:D
Regarding setting up a scanner...
That's not always the case at all....Just plug it in it will set itself up...
Some scanners, or multi-function all-in-one devices (scanner, printer, photocopier), need the software and drivers installed first before even physically plugging them in to your computer. Some don't. Depends on the device itself, which brand and model.
If you've have an aborted installation due to the electricity going off, lightning strikes, whatever, you'll need to uninstall/remove the device before trying to re-install it. It's not "hard", (when you know how), but has to be done properly. Otherwise your scanner transforms into an expensive paper-weight.
:D
Thanks Sanurian
I actually picked up the wedding dvds yesterday. I got them transferred at ABV in Jalan Kunti, Seminyak for Rp65,000 per dvd. I got two incase one gets damaged. It was fun watching yesterday for the first time in years but Im guessing it will be put away for years again now. The quality is ok but it was filmed by a freind of mine who bought the handycam especially and had never used it before so its not great.
The vinyl was actually easier to find a place. Gongs in Jalan Sadhadewa, Kuta (Garlic Lane) can do it. But Made cant find the vinyl in Lombok so it will have to wait till I am there to fish it out. Im guessing once transferred that will be played even less but I would like to have it as it is records both me and my brother made as children.
