3 days ago I awoke with a swelling and tenderness on my right forearm. I assumed I had negligently clobbered something with it the previous day, although could not recall such an incident. I haven't yet seen a quack about it - too busy. However, it is still there and still very tender, lightly inflamed and with a hard lump in the flesh. Of course, I now figure it has to be something that bit me during the night - must have been something a bit potent! Anyone experienced this or similar before and can offer advice? I have to admit, I've been bitten by many things in my time here, but not this one. All sugestions welcome, although not the physically impossible ones!
Ciao.....Colin.
Hello Colin,
I think the culprit is the sand fly. I have been bitten several times by this stealthy biter. Don't scratch it or it will swell up and hurt like hell. I got bitten on my arm last time. After scratching it my forearm swelled up like a rugby ball. The doc in Seririt gave me some brilliant cream which cured it in a couple of days, but it was a mixture of creams in a small pot. Sorry don't know what was in the pot but it worked wonders.

from Stu.
I've heard stories about them but never ever to my knowledge been bitten by one. Guess i'm one of those lucky ones aye? :P
Thank you for that, Stu, but I don't live near the beach. Pity you don't recall what the cream was though, something like that would be good to keep around - in the fridge most likely.
However a thought has just occured while I write.....you could be right! I have a boat in Benoa and was aboard most of the day previous doing some maintenance work, possibly I was bitten either out there on the mooring - a bit unlikely - or when I came ashore and spent time transferring gear and outboard etc to the car - highly likely! Thanks for the idea Stu, it's just a tad better this morning but I'll see a doc tonight and run the sandfly thing by him. 8)

Colin,
Traditional treatment :
Crush shallot (enough to cover the swollen area) and mixed with a little bit of sugar. Leave the ingrediants cover the bites area for 2 -3 hours. The juice will suck the poison. It works, try it.
