This isnt something I ever saw in Bali however travelling to Java it seemed alot of hospitals are Islamic Hospitals obviously due to the majority of Javanese being Muslim...
I am curious what makes a hospital islamic though?? Does anybody know? I have asked Indonesians this as well and they seem unsure as to what makes it Islamic..
Is it just a name or a different way of practising medicine to keep in line with peoples beliefs?
My Javanese wife says that most Islamic Hospitals are funded (build) by an Islamic 'yayasan'.
These 'yayasan' carry an Islamic name and therefor the Hospital will also get an Islamic name.
So it's basically 'where the money comes from to build it, will determine it's name'.
don't read between the lines..i think the words are clear enough...:)
You really are a human version of Wikipedia, lonely planet and imigrasi Gilbert!thank you soo much haha
Here in Surabaya I think there is only 1 government hospital & 1 Muslims hospital & if you want to get better then you go to a private hospital. My wife said if you have no money you go & wait & wait & wait at the government/Muslim hospitals. The private hospitals are named after the owners, Dutch, Chinese/Christian. There is lots here so you just shop around for price.
Fred2, you say when you have no money you go to the Islamic Hospital or Government Hospital and wait etc.. Do you mean little money or no money? i.e they will treat you for free or they are much cheaper?
Thanks for answering guys.. It’s purely curiosity!!
Initially I thought they operated with halal medications and had a specific way of practising to stay true to the beliefs. (catholic hospitals wont give abortions). However apparently Islam is far more flexible than other religions and allows the use of (what would normally be considered haram) products(i think this is what you would say) if it saves your life.
If you are poor you can get a card from the government that will give you free medical. If you go to a hospital the first question is do you have money???? If no money, no honey(sorry I mean you wait, like everything in Indonesia, money talks) I know of lots of people that have went to the government hospital had there baby & left the baby at the hospital for up to 6 weeks or when they had enough money to pay for the delivery of the baby & then they can pickup there baby. Medications & even the medicine they use at the time of your operation you will have to pay up front. As for the Islam way???? I know if your daughter gets pregnant than she can not live in the same house as her mother because it is catchy!!
