The Jakarta Globe reports that immigration is introducing mandatory fingerprinting of all inbound foreigners on short stay visas.
“We chose Bali for this new system because it’s one of the major gateways into the country,” Rohadi Iman Santoso, head of the immigration office’s subdirectorate for information-systems implementation, said on Friday at the office of airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I in Badung district.
Travelers will also have their picutre taken. You can only expect that it will increase the time for people to get their visas processed. I read that it can take up to 2 hours to get through immigration when it's busy in the afternoon.
I wonder if they will be using the same computers and machines they are currently using at immigration offices, because they often seem to have some kind of trouble.
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat drinking beer all day.
The system already exist in Jakarta.
I was flying back to Bali through Jakarta on the 1 of April and i was surprised to see the new system with fingerprints and photos.
And yes it was a real mess, usually it takes around 30 to minutes to get cleared this time it took almost 3 hours and when i wanted to pick up my luggage it wasn't on the belt anymore i needed to ask where they did bring my luggage.
So good luck to all passengers that will fly to Bali, it took already to long time before the new system.
Best regards
Andy
Wait a minute, does this means EVERYBODY has to go through that b**l s**t, INCLUDING tourists getting their VOAs, or just foreigners on visas (Kitas, Sosbubs, and the likes?
Sukumabali,
Not disregarding Andy's experience, this sounds ABSOLUTELY crazy, and so counterproductive regarding tourism in Bali. Have you had some PERSONAL experience with this new law? Or is it just earsay?![]()

just read about it in the papers, it´s a strange decision, people arriving these days in ngurah rai already complaining about waiting too long, desks are empty, computers not working etc. and now a highly modern & expensive device? And where the money should come from? they even admitted in the news (ok kind of) that there is a lack of employee able to maintain and use it...
will see...a hoax? Probably not but 1 of those projects everybody is talking about and they never got started, new international airport? Sunset Road until Gilimanuk harbour? New yacht harbour in Benoa?

We arrived in Jakarta airport a couple of weeks ago from Australia. My wife is Indonesian and I have a retirement KITAS. Didn't experience this. The main hold-up going through Immigration was because of four Arabs in front of us.
Oh...when it was my turn, I set off a "red warning" and was called aside. It turned out that the staff had a problem with some data-base on the computers. No big deal, but slightly embarrassing.
We brought in various flower seeds, some plant bulbs, cheeses, some other foodstuff, etc, which we'd declared on our customs' forms. Our bags containing these were sent on to Bali. Nothing that we had on us was checked in Jakarta. The same happened in Bali - as soon as the staff saw our boarding passes from Jakarta, we were just waved through. Doesn't say much for Indonesian "quarantine" enforcement.
In retrospect, I wonder how actual "drug smugglers" get caught in the first place? Beats me.

This move should be another drag to us who go in and out of the Island.
Really inconvenient and a little awkward when you're in a hurry for a business sched.![]()
I heard they have now stopped the finger printing process for now. There were reports of tourists waiting up to four hours to pass through customs and immigration.
